So what? Life ain't perfect, is it? You go find a seat reasonably close to the toilet and go there during the intermission. If you missed a few points because of the shorter intermission, too bad. Deal with it. Or would you prefer they wear diapers instead? Dude, what part of "you can't just sit anywhere you want" do you not understand? Some programs actually have crowds. I guess that's not common at the matches you attend. No one at the NCAA asked me what I would prefer, but since you did, I would actually probably prefer that they simply made a 5 minute break between every set. No "intermission" at all, but give people a chance to go do what they have to do between sets. No, I just think more flexibly than you. Go earlier then? Find a seat (if possible) that is closer to the toilet. Or are you telling me that is not possible at all for every single college volleyball match that exist in the US? Surely some matches have seats available that is close to the toilet? Or you are elderly and have some disability issues, surely there are certain seats reserved for them in some gyms that provide greater ease and access for the occupant than a regular seat. You got a bladder problem but still want to attend matches live? Well, you go find a solution, however imperfect that may be. Like I say, would you rather they wear diapers? And your suggestion? Moot point anyway, NCAA is not going to listen to you...or me.

Then he can sit anywhere he wants and go to the bathroom any time he wants. Thanks for your awesome suggestion to think "flexibly".

Hint: Not every college volleyball match out there is in the high demand D1, are you saying every single match you attended is a sellout match... I have been to some matches where there are seats closer to the toilet...and GASP...it wasn't occupied.

Also, please everyone don’t forget - the coaches panel is ultimately who decides on rules/changes. This isn’t an NCAA/referee/etc. thing.

I love how this thread has devolved into a discussion about incontinence.
I think the CRS changes are good, I wish they were also supplemented with a time limit on how long the reviews can last. As in every other sport, I continue to dislike the disruption in game flow and time delay that the CRS brings.
And I'm confused as to how reducing the intermission to 5 minutes "will enhance the fan experience". I love the intermission entertainment and it does give fans some time to stretch, visit concessions and yes, relieve themselves if necessary.

However, many schools are still going to be new to the review system so I think its OK for now - maybe that will be a change made next time. Lets not kid ourselves, the intermission change is not for the fans - more likely its for television. They don't want to actually hire someone who can talk about volleyball or have a camera crew that can come up with replay highlights...

I honestly think the intermission change is more about coaches who are tired of going into the break with a full head of steam, only to be lost after 10 minutes of sitting around.

It is weird--basically, they are wanting to speed up the match...and then adding more options for reviews which take up more time. I'd much rather see ALL sports get rid of review, accept humans are officiating and move on. If not, then get rid of the humans completely--put pressure sensors in the floor to mark where the ball hit (or a GPS tracker inside the ball). The hybrid sucks (it's worst for basketball)

The reduction in time for the intermission between sets 2 & 3 is a direct result of the increase in dead time due to the use of the CRS system. That is what they mean by the fan experience.

I honestly think the intermission change is more about coaches who are tired of going into the break with a full head of steam, only to be lost after 10 minutes of sitting around. i think the big12 did away with the 10 minute intermission this past season (other please correct me if i'm wrong). instead we had the normal 3 minute break. was weird at first but then we got used to it. and i do agree with others that the amount of time spent on some challenges was downright absurd.

The five-minute intermission will probably be reversed once the large drop in concession revenues is announced. Any crowd of, say, 3,000 or more won't be able to get their food and back to their seats in time.

Rationale: According to the most recent CRS data, 81 percent of challenges involve “in/out” and “touch” calls Currently if the coach challenges “in”, but replay shows the ball is “out”, and it also shows there was a “touch”, the referees could only rule on the “in/out” call. This proposal allows the referees to make the correct call.
This is a little funny. It's good that they decided to allow the referees to make the right call.
