Oops! Oversight not to mention Arden!
I don't know about Granato. I know she's played a little for fun, but I don't know if her game would translate as well in the sand (serve-receive, passing etc.). Hey, but if she could contribute, that would be great!

Maglio, Martin, Loker, Ozee, Scoles, Homayun, Huddleston, Dreeuws, Ables, Napolean...could be a pretty good team along with Hurkett, Forbes, Banz, Stevens, Misraje, Russo... I'm still curious to know if there are any transfers coming in? At least one more quality player would be nice! There was some talk of a couple of indoor girls potentially crossing over. I could see Castillo playing, but I am not sure if she would contribute over one of the other "bigs"? She didn't crack the top 5 flights her two previous seasons with the beach team, but potentially she has two years left to play and she has improved indoors, so you never know? Iosia would be a great asset (if she were "allowed" to play). Unfortunately, I doubt she plays this season. : ( You never know though. If the rumor is true, that Maglio will return for one more season of Beach volleyball, I would like to see her teamed with Iosia, if Robyn allows Iosia to play Beach. I believe Maglio and Iosia, will be a very formidable team. Somewhat like the U.S. Olympic Gold Medal Beach duo. I am not saying, they will be as good as them. But they will have the makeup as them. One tall player, and the other one, who can do everything.

You should all tweet Maglio to ask whether she is indeed coming. Or reply on one of her Instagram (or other social media) posts with the following: "Are you coming back to Hawaii to play on the beach team?" (Is it sad that I can only think of Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for social media?)

Does anyone think Norene Iosia can gain 1st team All-American status if she decides to play Sand Volleyball?

Within three years time.
She'd be HM within two years time, if the AVCA awards such. ..I can't recall.

Does anyone think Norene Iosia can gain 1st team All-American status if she decides to play Sand Volleyball? It seems AVCA All-American honors are always given to the #1 flights. I haven't checked the list for every single year but that's what I remember seeing. All-Conference is different, as the lower flights are recognized. So, if Iosia wants to be an All-American, she has to be on the #1 flight.

Iosia played at the 4 and 5 flights a couple season's ago. I am not sure with the player's we have this season if she would be on the #1 flight. Maybe if she had a really good partner? Her indoor game doesn't translate quite as well on the sand (at least in the past it didn't...defense, blocking, fitness). She has definitely diversified her game the past two seasons indoor so maybe she would be even better this season. I would love to see her play! Iosia actually really enjoys hitting, so she would probably enjoy banging away all day long on the beach. The AVCA has given All-American only to #1 and with a few exceptions at the #2 flights (Bukovec and Wheeler from USC). I think the team that wins the Championship has a good chance to get their #2 flight AA if they have a good enough record.

Iosia was a good fit at the 4 or 5 flight. Being honest, she wasn't the most physical and fast athlete out there and not everyone is, but her high IQ is what got her in the starting line-up in the first place. She was a blocker when she played and just had pretty good positioning on defense and a good shot selection. IMHO she won't be an all-american on the beach but she is good enough to start for the Bows.

According to Cindy Luis, she talked with a few of Maglio's friends, and they said that Maglio will be back in the spring to play with the SandBows. Now, pending for the confirmation from Maglio herself.

It looks like former Sandbow Chloe Luyties is now with the UC Berkeley beach team.

Yes, she is. It was an unfortunate loss for UH. She likely would have contributed this season, but I hope she gets good playing time there.

Now, pending for the confirmation from Maglio herself. It has been made official, by Jeff Hall (Head Coach - SandBows), that Maglio will return to play for the Sandbows in 2019. Now that it has been made official, would love to see Maglio team with Iosia, if Iosia decides to play Sand Volleyball.

So, it's not that Maglio will be eligible to play by simply taking a few classes here and there. In fact, Maglio still hasn't gotten all her required credits to graduate. She's basically continuing her studies so that she can get her Bachelor's. Okay, it makes more sense.

I actually had never thought of pairing Iosia and Maglio together, but they could actually have an interesting partnership. Iosia and Mags are friends who might enjoy a reunion playing together. I like that Iosia has been playing on the right in indoor. With Schucht last season they had Mags playing on both right and left because Schucht was having a little trouble playing behind Emily on the left (after playing with Taylor for a season and a half on the right). Big blockers like Mags are often paired with a small player who sometimes ends up getting served and has to do all the hitting. Iosia would be comfortable taking a majority of the hitting while still being able to set Mags some sweet balls in transition. I think Mags has been steadily improving her defense as well...could they split block? They might be a little weaker on the defense, but don't they say a good offense is the best defense. : ) They could potentially be a better match for teams like Graudina and Bustamante. We need to start a campaign to get Iosia to play beach this season, regardless of whether she was paired with Mags or not. I am not sure who they would put with Mags this season. Homayun and Ozee have such great chemistry and have become the best of friends on and off the court. I see, if possible, Hall wouldn't want to split them up. A Maglio-Scoles partnership could be interesting? I could see someone like Martin, with her high beach IQ, paired with someone like Scoles. Scoles would have a shorter learning curve with Martin and I could see her improving quickly, but it would be fun to see Scoles and Maglio together. They would need time to get adjusted, but they would finish strong. If Scoles is as can get as good at beach volleyball as she is at indoor, those two would be a force! The right partnerships will be even more key this year to compete with talented teams such as UCLA and USC this season. With this 2019 Swedish commit also being a good beach player, would Robyn allow her to play beach as well? Though it isn't for everyone, for some players, playing both indoor and beach is a draw for them.

When does UH beach fall schedule come out? It seems like teams from UCLA, USC, Cal Poly, FSU etc. are playing in a number of fall tournaments or challenges. UH doesn't seem to be in any of these events. Is it budget (and proximity to competition) keeping them from playing Fall tournaments? Last year they had a less intensive fall schedule than many of the best teams. As it is some of the best players (McNamaras, Sponcil, Cannon, Graudina etc.) have been playing at high levels (FIVB events, AVP etc.) all summer (and now Fall). Will beach volleyball at UH become like indoor with an ever-widening gap between the top-tiered teams and the have-nots in terms of recruits?
