this may be a dumb question, but I’m curious. Does the roster going up mean we don’t anticipate adding any additional pieces to the team? If they were in talks with a transfer or something, would they wait to put it up, or just add that person later on when jr’s confirmed?
I honestly hope this is the squad we’re going with and Jerrritt finds a way to utilize the pieces he has. As much as having a backup pin would be nice, Orie and/Asjia could fill that role without messing with the current team dynamic which appears to be pretty healthy at this point. Just speculating here, of course.

I would say the timing of the roster has no relationship to the possibility of a transfer. I suspect the timing is related to the time of the year. Changes to it can be made at any time.
If I was guessing, there will not be a transfer. Unlikely a transfer would wait until now to make a decision.

I do chuckle to myself when I hear the inherent, never ending Texas fan call for another pin. If needed, the experienced Yaazie could fill the spot. Asjia being a middle seems a likely right side trainee. Most teams have their go to girl playing the left side hitter so an athletic natural middle might come in handy against the likes of a Plummer or Foecke. This is where and why I thought Brionne would come in handy last year. IMO, big mistake in red shirting her last year. Also it looks like Mr. Elliott has Orie playing right side too. Front line is loaded. Would not mind seeing an experienced back row player come in to compliment Sydney if Jhenna takes a while to gear up.

You'd be the first one crying on here if an unforeseen injury affects one of our veteran pin hitters and having no experienced pins on the bench. As versatile as Yaazie is, she can't "fill the spot" if she happens to get sidelined for any reason. While some of our listed MBs could play on the pins in a pinch, none of them are natural pin hitters that will challenge the opponents consistently if we need to rely on them for an extended period of time.

I'm excited to see the season that Yaazie is going to have -- that kid is something else. Her versatility and willingness to play (and play well) wherever she is needed on the court is what makes her so dynamic and fun to watch.
I also am interested to see the growth of Shook. I think she had a solid freshman season. She had her freshman moments, but still a good season. What I want to see most from her is emotional leadership growth. When Texas graduated Chloe Collins, it wasn't her skill they only lost, but also her leadership and her emotions. I think you need those qualities from your setter in a 5-1 (cc: Kelly Hunter (NEB), Carlini (WIS), Detering (PSU), Havili (KU), so I hope to see Shook take notes from how those great setters controlled the court with their passion and how they communicated with their offense.

I agree! Yaazie will be dominant. She promised Jerritt after losing in 2016 that they’d be back and take the ‘ship. We all know what happened last year but this woman is ready to lead the team. She’s gonna have a freaking year. I’m so pumped! I just wish she’d play all the way around tbh!

You seem paranoid about injury. If Logan works out Texas would have 3 capable strikers available for left side duty. Would 4 be enough to calm your fears? Mr. Elliott, as do most coaches recruit good athletic types for a reason. Coaches want athletes for their diversity meaning they are capable of playing other positions. Examples at Texas would be Yaazie and Caya. Caya had to nearly be dragged kicking and screaming to play in the back row. Good athletes can make the transition. One injury in the back court might put Texas in a can't pass again season. All your pins will end up tipping a lot of balls again. Same old! Ashley and the team deserve a good libero. So I say an experienced back row player could be a more sensible team addition. Sydney may work out well or not and Jhenna might also take some time to adjust to Div.1 By the way, another experienced pin is not going to ride the bench for long. One of 3 likely reasons a player transfers is lack of playing time. So says the NCAA. I did not cry when Caya broke her leg, so cross that off your list of worries.

I did not cry when Caya broke her leg, so cross that off your list of worries. You have a very selective memory. In Micaya's true freshman season back in 2015, Texas had upperclassmen pin hitters like Amy Neal, Paulina Prieto-Cerame, and Ebony Nwanebu. And, we had true freshman, Yaazie Bedart-Ghani. So, even with Micaya's injury followed by Ebony's injury, we had 3 pin hitters remaining on our roster. If you do the math, that's 5 - 2 = 3. Coach Elliott tinkered with Molly McCage on the right side a bit until Yaazie got more comfortable playing Opposite. So, things worked out because of depth at the pins.
How would Texas survive this season if two pin hitters became unavailable? Please enlighten us with your never-ending wisdom.

If Logan and Micaya White both got injured Johnson and O´Neal in the middle. Yazzi and Butler (a la cuttino) on the outside. Agbaji on the right. Best passer of the 3 stays on the court, other two get subbed out. You would make it work

I would personally rather have a DS/L transfer if we were to get a transfer. That’s honestly our biggest question mark IMO. We have the firepower on the front row.

Coaches want athletes for their diversity meaning they are capable of playing other positions. Versatility, not diversity lol. Careful.

How many line ups do you think Jerritt will try until he gets to the final one? He has big games before the big 12, which is not much. I'm both scared and very excited but mostly scared for pre season.

We can get all the transfers as long as we have uniforms for them. But, only one of them can be on scholarship for 2018 based on the numbers.
Last DS transfer I recall to Texas was Kate Paladino from A&M; and, she went to high school in an Austin suburb. She was not a scholarship player.
We lost our 4-year starting Libero, and now have a freshman scholarship Libero expected to fill her shoes. So, if there is an experienced Libero from another school who wanted to come to Texas, there would probably be a scholarship for her for the 2018 season; but, not for the 2019 season. Not many experienced Liberos are gonna want to give up their current long-term scholarship for just one scholarship year at Texas; maybe a Libero with only one season of eligibility remaining would be the best fit numbers-wise.
But, I don't see it happening, mainly because I don't know of any Liberos looking for a new home. And, also because I don't think we've ever had two backrow-only players on scholarship at the same time.

Kate didn't play at A&M though, she was just enrolled at A&M for that one year before transferring to UT.
