Not quoting Ray because I am sick of the posts being carried through the thread, but what biz is is of yours when they come to the matches? That is such a weird concern for you to have. Worse, you are eavesdropping on their conversations. I can picture you rubbing your hands together and giggling doing so. Gross. I was thinking the same thing. Like how is it now a bad thing when parents go to their kids games!? Also, the fact that they 1- Have time and 2- have money to fly to Austin every weekend further supports my theory that Lexi really doesn’t need to be on scholarship. She’s gonna go where she wants to go and let the schollie situation play out as it will.

Hey, imploring everyone to drop the tangent on Sun and Zelon. They're not part of Texas' future. Can we move forward?

Hmmmm. Butler or Agbaji blocking on the right instead of YBG...that could be very effective. Hopefully the spring matches will reveal a little more. Spring Matches will probably show Orie, Butler and possibly Blair. You know nobody really talks about her. But I’ve seen her in practice and she’s pretty strong at slides and blocking. This girl needs to be pushed and good things could come out of that. Also the back up setter Rilley could be used as a backup Pin hitter untill O’neal And the other 2 DS/S come in. Jerritt Eliot and his coaching staff have a lot of work to do. Is Butler allowed to play in Spring? She's under a redshirt and I think that Spring 2018 still counts as part of the redshirt "year". The reason I think this is that when Chi didn't play in her (original) senior year due to academics and her parents asked Jerritt redshirt her, Chi couldn't play in the Spring game of 2017.

Spring games are unofficial and do not count for anything so there should be no problem. Academics are a much different beast than injury or just redshirting a freshman because they are not ready yet.

Technically, Chiaka was academically cleared before the start of Fall semester, 2016. But her parents went to Jerritt and asked him to redshirt her (so the story goes). So maybe Chiaka not playing Spring 2017 was the continued extension of the parents' tough love.

I don't know what UT's academics are like, but at a lot of schools you need to take a minimum # of classes to be considered a full time student and thus eligible for athletics. Maybe Chi was taking a lighter course load that semester to bring her grades back up?

True, but the term redshirt was originally used for sitting out a year season for medical reasons and then it was used for any athlete sitting out (greyshirt was used early on for Frosh sitting out). If a player has to sit out a year because of transfer within conference (B1G, PAC, SEC, Big12, etc.) then they may practice, but may not participate in any fall or spring competitions official or unofficial. This is also true if a player transfers, but does not get a release (ex. Holman). Butler will be able to compete in spring without any issues, but by sitting out her Frosh season if she were to get injured in any spring season and missed the following fall she could not automatically redshirt; she would have to petition the NCAA for a medical redshirt 6th year if she wanted to play 4 years.

Hey, Texas fans! You should definitely come on up to Madison the first week in September when the Badgers host the Longhorns. Early fall is my favorite time of year in Wisconsin. It’ll likely be in the 70s with low humidity. You’ll love the Field House atmosphere. It’s not unlike Gregory. And our beer is excellent.

Any Longhorns planning to make the trek to Madison? Or even thinking about it?
