To me, doing 8-10 reps per set per swim stroke, including holding the "pose" at its highest peak for some time, started to get hard after 2 sets. So, it wasn't easy.

So, is this the type of station you use? While holding weights?

Well, when I say "endurance," I'm talking about muscle endurance as opposed to just raw strength (and definitely not cardio endurance). Like doing a few of these doesn't seem difficult at all, but doing a bunch in a row with no break would get progressively more difficult until you can't hold yourself up anymore. The same goes for bench press or whatever. I work out with like 225 for strength, but even doing 135 can get me very fatigued if I do 20 reps per set. Okay, gotcha. If you've been exercising with weights using a hyper-extension station, then you probably won't have any problems with the above exercise. I've never used such hyper-extension stations myself, but if you're doing sit-ups, reverse sit-ups, and the like while holding weights, dayummm... Yeah, well, I basically treat the gym like a part-time job. I'm in there a lot under normal circumstances. I'm not sure I've seen a hyper-extension machine like the one you posted, or if I have, maybe I didn't realize what it was supposed to be used for. The one I use looks like this:

So, is this the type of station you use? While holding weights? This video does a good job of showing what I'm talking about. If I'm going pretty easy, I'll have just a 45-pound plate. My normal routine is a 35-pound plate on top of a 45-pound plate (the 35 is smaller, so it fits right on top). Any more than that is too awkward to hold onto during the exercise.

First, damn, I could NOT stop looking at the gym lady's physique. She has more muscles that I will ever have and is much better toned that I will ever be. Second, in the swimming exercise tweet, the lady is horizontal, while your hyperextension station is more at an angle. Horizontal would be tougher. Regardless, the fact that you use weights while doing those exercises gives you a head start over the rest of us mere mortals. Third, I agree with her about momentum. I NEVER use momentum for my floor exercises. That's cheating.

I don't recall seeing one anywhere. Also, when I said a few of them would be "easy," I just meant like a few strokes. If you're talking about doing her whole thing (8-10 reps for each of four strokes) as one "set," then yeah, I agree that would be a lot harder. I'll try it when the gym re-opens.

Man, what these exercises would do to my lower back! You just can't jump in on these exercises without expecting trouble in the L3, L4, L5 region.

Going for a 5-mile run today near COSTCO. Then, buy chicken bake from COSTCO and shop for stuff. All before taking a shower. I've done this before. No one seems to mind.

The gym has been open just over a month now, and that is about how long it took me to rebuild the muscle that I lost during the quarantine. I'm very close to, at, or above my pre-quarantine strength levels for basically all my lifts. I've also been doing 45 minutes of cardio on the step mill twice a day to prevent putting on too much fat, and that's been fairly successful (I've gained about five pounds, and I think it's virtually all muscle). I'm planning to compete in a bodybuilding competition toward the end of August, so I will probably start cutting in the next couple of weeks.

Well, there's different divisions of bodybuilding. I'm competing in the one that's relatively skinny compared to the others. I'm definitely not skinny, but I'm also not big enough to compete with the monsters in the other divisions. I don't quite have the genetics and/or I don't use steroids.

Off to run...
If I don't make it back, you know something tragic happened.

We're in the middle of a heatwave. Freak thunderstorm yesterday morning. Hot and humid all day yesterday and today. Just unbearable.
Going on a 6-mile run. Do pushups and plank exercises at various intervals. Hope to get 30 sets during the entire run.

Today is indoor weightlifting day. The entire Bay Area is hazy with ashes floating around from the several wildfires. Yes, not just one, but several different wildfires in Santa Clara County, San Mateo County, plus up in Napa. The smoke smell is overwhelming.
