I need to start looking into more bike trails. I've been riding since about 2012, and I've explored most of the trails in the Lincoln area. I keep hearing the MoPac (in Lincoln) is going to extend to Omaha someday. And our Jamaica North trail has been under construction for a couple of summers now, but it travels south and crosses the Nebraska-Kansas border.

I have this fear that if I ride a bicycle regularly, some drunkard will clip me and I'll go flying off the side of the road and break my neck. And that'll be that. Besides, I believe in total body exercise, not just my lungs, heart, and thighs.

Today, it's going to be another tough one. Run 4 miles on the track; every half-lap, do some upper body or core exercise. I also bring a set of dumbbells and a 10-lb medicine ball with me.

Punching bag. I usually do 4 or 5 rounds, lasting five minutes each with 1 minute of rest. If you stop punching or kicking be sure to continue moving. Try wearing some heavy clothing if you can stand it. A great way to lean up and feel good. Especially if you have problems that prevent you from running. Question? Why the heavy clothing?

To increase strength via increased resistance? Kind of like wearing ankle weights when running? My guess...

Working on a punching or heavy bag isn't generally thought of as resistance training. Wearing heavy clothing is often done by people who want to increase their sweat output, and that's not a great idea regardless of whether doing resistance or aerobic activities.

I have been boxing since 14 years of age. Even young we would wear heavy clothing to sweat. It was taught to us. Sometimes I will wear a hoodie with a flannel shirt over top. I am not aware of the problems with working up a good sweat while training??

I was going to lift weights and do kettle bell crap. But I'm feeling lazy, so I'm going to do something simple by running 5 miles. Honestly, running is easiest for me. Medicine balls are the toughest. Lunges are also killers. Burpees, I'm okay with. I could only do 8 in a row several years ago when I first started doing burpees. Now, it's a piece of cake. I can do 20 in a row easily.

Anybody use a rowing machine? I love it. It's almost hypnotic. I can only go 20 minutes before my legs burn, which is odd because I can ride my bike for hours. Different motion I guess.
Total workout while being low impact.

Total workout while being low impact. I find it boring. It's great for workouts but I can't tolerate going 20+ minutes on that thing.

Best way to the game is by bike. There's limited auto parking, but with the bike path, you can lock up your bike right there. I know all the bike routes in Madison, so if you visit, bring your bike! I go about 4,000 - 5,000 miles per year and since 2003 I've gone 62,000 miles. Some might say I have a problem, but then, it's all balanced out by the volleyball obsession, right?
Other paths go right along Lake Mendota (the campus lake) and Lake Monona (the downtown lake).

I am not aware of the problems with working up a good sweat while training?? You were taught wrong. Sweating is simply the cooling mechanism of the body and there is very little correlation between how much someone is sweating and how hard they're working or how many calories they're burning. The water lost when sweating will be replaced once a person rehydrates. Like a car engine, your body works more efficiently when it's cooler. More efficiency means one can do more work before exhaustion sets in. When we artificially heat up our bodies (wearing extra clothing) we can't work as hard as we could otherwise. www.womenshealthmag.com/fitness/a19932907/sweating-during-exercise/
