There was a tie this year for Player of the Year. This award is given to the player(s) who received the most votes during the voting process. The 2019 Volleytalk D3 Players of the Year are Landon Shorts of Stevenson, Nick Smith of SUNY New Paltz and Ray Cascio of UC Santa Cruz. A wide variety of VolleyTalkers decided on their own that 3 different players were unanimous All-Americans. Three great players from 3 different regions. And yet LJ’s committee doesn’t give the POY award to any of them. The committee really needs a shakeup. The committee is relegated to those voting eligible by paid AVCA membership. From there, Committees are chosen. Whomever chooses the committee, wields a lot of influence. Who is this person? Furthermore, why does this have to be the model? What can't it just be an NCAA All American list and every NCAA Coach gets to vote? Seriously, if someone know's a reason why I would love to hear it.

I don't think the NCAA sponsors any All-American Team for any sport. They usually are done by an outside organization which one would need to be a member to vote.

The final AVCA Coaches' Poll is due out today. It will be interesting to see how they rank the teams... but I am looking forward to seeing the reaction of the more vocal volleytalkers.

Final Poll of the 2019 Season from Reignman
1. New Paltz- They were the best team in the country when it mattered most 2. Santa Cruz- They beat the best teams in the country when it mattered most 3. Springfield- Hardest thing to do in sports is beat a good team 3 times; Couldn't get NP when it mattered most 4. Stevens- Very disappointing finish for a team that I think may have had most total talent in the country 5. Endicott- Couldn't close out New Paltz when it mattered most 6. Wells- Extraordinary year from the small school in Upstate New York; A few points away from playing in Final Four during first NCAA Tournament appearance which is very tough (I know from experience) 7. Rivier- I don't think I gave this squad the credit they deserved throughout the year but here they are deserving of the rank they earned 8. Stevenson- Firmly believe they were the est team left out of the NCAA Tournament 9. Benedictine- Probably the 2nd best team left out of the NCAA Tournament 10. Arcadia- Great year from a young squad who will be force in 2020 (IMO) 11. Fontbonne- Credit due where it is due; Huge wins over Carthage and MSOE gave this program a year to remember 12. MSOE- nice year and able to take advantage of Ben U unfortunate set up 13. Carthage- Lost the two matches where it mattered most 14. Southern Virgina- The Recarbarren train ran out of steam at tourney time 15. Lancaster Bible- Few points short of potentially making huge run in NCAA this year
Also Receiving Consideration: Kean, Elms, St. Joe's LI, Baruch, St. John Fisher, Hunter, Juniata
Might be time for us to expand the poll (personally would like to see 20). Looking forward to providing clarity and insight into the poll for 2020 season. Now to focus on the women's side of things. Arrivederci
