Since it came up in another thread I figured it would be best to create a separate one for this topic. Here is the procedure for qualification to the 2020 Olympics: cdn.dosb.de/user_upload/Olympische_Spiele/Tokio_2020/internationale_Qualifikationskriterien/FIVB_-_Beach_Volleyball_20180316.pdfSummary: max. 2 teams per country/gender 1 - host country 2 - FIVB Beach Volleyball Olympic Qualification Tournament (new tournament - best 16 teams based on world ranking on 31/12/2018 - only one team per country - will be played in 2019) 1 - World Champion 2019 15 - Olympic Ranking list (best 12 results between September 2018 and June 2020) 5 - Continental cup (similar to 2016 - 1 team per confederation - similar to Davis Cup in tennis) Noteworthy: A team cannot win a spot for itself but only for its National Federation (e.g. Evandro/Vitor Felipe win the World Championship 2019 and Saymon/Alvaro via Olympic Ranking the NF Brazil can still send Bruno/Pedro and Alison/Andre) Additional thought: Considering that the World Champs plus the new Olympic Qualification Tournament will be won by teams who will finish within the Top 15 of the Olympic Ranking list this basically means that the best 18 teams will qualify via Olympic Ranking list.

I also started predicting who will eventually qualify for 2020 and this is the list I came up with:
Tier 1 - Sure Locks: 1 Brazil 1 2 Brazil 2 3 Dalhausser 4 Kantor/Losiak 5 Brouwer/Meeuwsen 6 Smedins/Samoilovs 7 Herrera/Gavira 8 Nicolai/Lupo 9 Russia 1 (out of Stoyanovski/Velichko, Krasilnikov/Liamin and Semenov/Leshukov) 10 Russia 2
Tier 2 - Surprise if they don't qualify
11 Doppler/Horst 12 Plavins/Tocs 13 Mol/Sorum 14 Bouter/Varenhorst 15 USA 2
Tier 3 - In contention until the end
16 Pedlow/Schachter 17 Perusic/Schweiner 18 Poland 2 (Fijalek/Bryl or Prudel/Szalankiewic) Beeler/Krattiger Saxton / O'Gorman Böckermann/Flüggen Virgen/Ontiveros Gonzalez/Nivaldo Ranghieri/Caminati
Tier 4 - Could qualify if they take the next step
Cherif/Ahmed Tijan Heidrich/Gerson Koekelkoren/ van Walle Ehlers/Schümann Kolaric/Basta Thole/Wickler

Looks about right. Any news on carambulas partner from lube civitanova? Does he continue to play indoor?
Who do you think is going to play for the US? Phil is set (with no major injury). What about Taylor, Reid, Chase? Those would be my picks for the two spots. Or Trevor on defence.

Just because he’s a weak blocker?

Ihttp://www.fivb.org/EN/BeachVolleyball/WRanking_w.asp What does this list actually mean? Can someone explain it...It appears to me like our highest ranked team is Summer & Brooke?? Is this right and if so it’s sad!! So that’s the ranking list of teams, not to be confused with the entry list (which is used for seeding in tournaments). Yes, in that list, the first two USA teams no longer exist, meaning April Ross and Alix Klineman are the first ranked USA team on the list. However, as they are currently ranked 29th, they have some work to do!

I wonder who’s in the run for USA 2 spot for the men’s.
I guess there might also be some partner shuffling come the end of the season. Is John Hyden making a run? He will be 47. That sounds scary...

Yeah, unless let’s say Germany or Brazil has a lot of teams in the top 16 or 20, then because of country quota, it’ll shift down, but still, 29th is a bit far of a reach. But then again, qualifications have not started yet. The girls have time.

So really in other words most teams really have to be set in stone by sept of this year in order to have a decent shot at qualifying, right? I don’t get all these legalities...Sorry for so many questions...

This week, Dalhausser and Lucena dropped to 4th in Rankings— would actually be 3rd since Evandro and Andre no longer exist 😂
And just a side note, on the men’s side, the next USA team ranked after Dalhausser/Lucena is Gibb/Crabb who’s ranked 27th.
