This isn't all about Karch. Guidetti getting this Turkey team to the finals, with wins over USA and Brazil along the way, is the story of this tournament. Guidetti isn't the strongest tactical coach or the highest volleyball IQ coach, but he's a good student of the game, and he has what Karch lacks: emotional IQ. Well look here, we actually agree on something. It's debatable who is the "best" coach (or what criteria to judge the "best"), but Guidetti is certainly one of the best coach out there. To bring a young and inexperienced team all the way to the finals, is quite an accomplishment. But as for EQ-How do you know Karch has none of it? I know it like I know the Pope is Catholic.

That's funny, I have to admit.

We should start a new thread about the championship match, so that we don't conflate these two topics.

My thoughts, Karch isn’t free of criticism as a coach it is expected. He has also made some highly questionable decisions in the past regarding his roster spots so for these reasons alone people will always question what he does. Not to mention other things.
I don’t think he is a bad coach and from his track record in international tournaments he seems to do a pretty good job. I think he can still do better but the teams success as a fan is our success. Also due to the fact we are likely seeing the window close on some of the best volleyball athletes we have seen for Team USA in Jordan and Foluke I would love to see them get gold cause they have been so solid for us for so many years. If this helps build team unity and comraderie going forward I am all for it.

Karch's decision making sometimes leaves me and I'm sure many fans scratching their heads...wtf were you thinking?

The USA is not a level above most of the volleyball powers. When people start with the premise that the USA *is*, it leads to unreasonable expectations AND it undervalues what they *do* accomplish. We all want a gold medal. It's going to take some luck and a special team. Um you might wanna re-prase that. They were world champions a couple years ago, and the #1 team in the world for quite some..time. If it's anyone is to blame, it is Karch. Stop making excuses. I did after the Olympics. They will never win gold with this coach. Yes he was a great player, but not a good coach!

No.1 ranked team has little meaning, they are beaten regularly by lesser teams. It is you who has to take off your Karch hate blinders and evaluate him objectively.

Flo stream is live! Attendance is very, very sparse. Delightful PA recitation of both teams' rosters, in English and Mandarin Chinese. It's custom in Chinese to approximate Western names by nearest-match, syllable-for-syllable, with (four) intonations added. Chinese has a fixed palette of only ~400 spoken sounds (roughly, ~20 start-of-word consonants x ~20 endings), x4 intonations in Mandarin. (Other dialects, esp. Cantonese, Hong Kong, and Taiwanese, have fewer(?) sounds and more intonations.) So Chinese simply omits some configurations of human palettes. When they translate movie or book names, they translate the meaning, not the sound. When they must translate a spoken proper name, they ... approximate it. It sounds pretty cool, and they get to use clever puns by having a five-syllable name actually mean something as a phrase. (My favorite joke is USA mso RB Eric Lichaj ("LEE-high") as "li(\)hai(\)" powerful, efficacious ) Chinese does very well in approximating Spanish names, because they use almost the same rules of syllable construction and vowel pronunciation. They don't do Portuguese, because they don't have -aõ, either

Larson wins the toss, and receives. Erdem Dündar chooses same side they're already on?

Wasn't that World Championship gold obtained while Karch was coaching?

Since you guys love to criticize Karch, you can say right now he is being out-coached by Guidetti...and on that particular issue, I would actually agree 100%.
