Too early to comment on Crouch but he seems personable and able to connect with recruits. OTOH, Haley doesn’t seems that nice yet he can still reel in great players! Ucla is in a dilemma. If the best player in Nebraska or Minnesota wants to stay in state, the choice is simple she will just go to NU or Minny. If a TOP recruit from California wants to stay local she will be spoiled with choices like Stanford, Cal and even in Los Angeles alone she has two schools to choose from. If the no 1 player like Alix Klineman has the grade she picked Stanford and when another no 1 player like Falyn did not have the grades she picked USC even though both of their moms attended UCLA I used to roll my eyes when a gopher fan commented ucla always get TOP recruits but underperformed. PV would often give the Bruins recruiting class a high ranking becos they placed a premium on the size of the class and a public school like ucla attracted many walk ons hence every year they have a big class and I know players like Gil and Gates Would prefer to go to Stanford but Gil wanted immediate playing time and Gates was not offered by Stanford becos they wanted Fitz. I am not even sure if Ucla can get Spicer if the timing was not right Well, on a positive note: you guys just won the National Championship in beach. That's pretty cool.

I am not even sure if Ucla can get Spicer if the timing was not right I think it is hard to recruit in CA. We used to have a high percentage of the HS VB players so it didn't matter that there were 4 schools in the Pac8-10 plus many other schools in the WCC, the Mountain West, & Big West Conferences. I"m not suggesting that, e.g., a player from St. Mary's, Santa Clara, Pacific, or USF would turn down a full ride at Stanford or Cal but it does limit who you can get as a walk-on player. I'd guess you have that same problem at UCLA but it sounds like you do very well with walk-ons. Now that so many volleyball players come from all over the country (and CA players go to various states), it's a lot harder for all the schools IMO. I agree about UCLA not having an advantage in state, although I'm surprised you'd have much competition with Cal at this point. (I really do hope that they turn their program around but they have all UCLA's problems with recruiting plus they don't have nearly as good an indoor or beach program.) Like you say, most of the top WI players seem to go to Madison and the top MN players mostly go to Minneapolis. NE players often want to stay in NE. They all also pull from other states in the upper midwest so they have pretty large pools. Texas seems especially blessed in that regard: they have a huge pool of players from TX who mostly seem to want to play in Austin and they get players from out of state as well. Stanford and USC still seem to do well (not as well as TX but who does) and I'm not sure why in comparison with UCLA. Does having a top beach program help? I would think that would be attractive to some players and neither Stanford nor Cal can really compete with UCLA there.

So do you expect UCLA recruiting to pick up now that Crouch is there instead of Mick? He seems to have gotten some good transfers so it seems like he's no slouch. Do you think having a top beach program makes recruiting for indoor easier or harder? It's interesting to me to compare USC, Stanford, UCLA, and Cal's recruiting. It seems like all 4 would have a similar type of appeal (excellent schools, good volleyball with the exception of Cal but I always hope they'll improve), unless someone was looking specifically for SoCal or NorCal. Too early to comment on Crouch but he seems personable and able to connect with recruits. OTOH, Haley doesn’t seems that nice yet he can still reel in great players! Ucla is in a dilemma. Here are the Senior Ace rankings of the recruits. 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 17, 19 and #2 ranked Libero Exactly ZERO of these kids is from Wisconsin. So 7 top 10 senior aces in 5 years and just missed on Lexi Sun Transfer per Nebraska Newspaper.

Ucla is going to dominate in beach vball simply becos it has the advantage for being a public school. Beach vball allows 6 scholarships and it will be cheaper for California players to walk on. Furthermore Sealy allows players to cross over which means their beach program did not pay anything to get the services of Sponcil Muno May and Simo last year. Their contributions were huge for the beach program. Metzger better not burn his bridges with Sealy

I don't agree with lotssssss of these rankings this year. I do agree with the #1 recruit. The Stanford players are all inflated accept for 1. As always, bias there. 6 players from 15-25 are much bigger assets to their respective programs than 2-14. Almost done even paying attention to this anymore. Like I always say, please read the All American lists and look at their pvb rankings, almost laughable. Especially how many top 10s are missing from that award. I'm glad these are put together, but the amount of weight some people in this forum put into this as Gospel is an eye roll.

For USC: 11 and 7, are MB and OH or OH and MB, respectively?

Have to account for the fact that some are a #1-#10 coming out of Senior year in HS, but that was their peak. We can all name at least one or 2 of those today. But #42 (I am not looking at the list, so that is pulled from the air.) might peak at some point in college. These are snapshots of where they are currently and what their immediate impact on their awaiting program is projected to be, not a prediction of future development. It's one of many instruments of projection out there. Also the "silly" watch lists, Maxpreps lists, UA AA lists, etc. When we agree with them, they are unbiased and spot on. When we don't, they are biased and a joke. Same thread content, different year.

Chris Tobolski of our company does an analysis every year and there is a correlation. It is perfect? Of course not. We frame it every year as the best minds in college prospect evaluation making a determination of collegiate impact as of a snapshot in time. When viewed that way, it is a fun, informative list, which is its intent. It is not gospel.

Do you consider things like court presence and attitude, demeanor, social media posts, coachability? You can still be very talented but if a "diva", you can end up being a cancer for a team. I have definitely seen this with one of your top players in particular which is why I ask.

I always love these threads and the static form that is followed every single year in the comments. Bias is my favorite followed by the usual people complaining about how much weight others put on these rankings. Of course nothing is perfect, players get injured, some players peak, others just do not fit in at where they are committed. Unless you have a crystal ball, none of this can be known.
Regarding bias, of course a player who is recruited by and committed to Stanford, Texas, PSU and a couple of others is going to end with a higher ranking typically. I should just say duh here because it is so obvious why but apparently some people are incapable of seeing the simple fact that these schools recruit and sign the very best players year after year. It is only in the fact that some people like to do nothing more than criticize is it a question.
As always, if you see no benefit, nothing good about it or have some other predisposed bias against rankings of any sort you are more than free to move on and not click. It is only your own narcissism that keeps you coming to these threads.

Have to account for the fact that some are a #1-#10 coming out of Senior year in HS, but that was their peak... The list is supposed to be based on college potential and not who is the most ready right now. That is easier said than done. I look at #9 and #10 as a classic contrast of potential and polish. One has tremendous potential upside which may never be realized, and the other may be much closer to her potential with not as much room to improve. How do you compare and rank those two? This was a continuation of my thought process: "These are snapshots of where they are currently and what their immediate impact on their awaiting program is projected to be, not a prediction of future development. " Read more: volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/74420/2019-senior-aces-top-100?page=24#ixzz5PfpvjIzZI always thought immediate impact was the heavy in the eval. Maybe I have misunderstood.
