I’m not sure I love this. Both Choy and Iosia graduate this upcoming season. That leaves Lang all alone in 2020. Although it’s nice to have a backup setter, I would’ve preferred a junior transfer who could set full time in 2020 while Lang learns. Wondering, if Iosia stays healthy, and Choy does not play, will Robyn then opt for Choy to apply for a redshirt year. Can this be possible? Yes. I’ve always lobbied for redshirting Kanoe Kamanoe for one year so as to let Cayley Thurlby set for one year. Shoji didn’t listen to me.

I highly doubt that Choy will want to apply for a redshirt year. I don't think she wants to stick another year after, and she already graduated from Utah. Not sure if she has aspirations to play professionally either. It depends how long her grad program is at UH. Most are 2 years.

Choy would not have gotten much playing time this year at Utah as Saige Ka'aha'aina-Torres (another Iolani grad) is going take over the setting duties. Might as well come home. Bailey is better than Torres and an upgrade over Ma’afala. I expect the 6-2 to continue, Iosia has been looking deadly hitting.

The line-up could look like: S: Iosia/Choy OH1: Rasmussen OH2: Hellvig OPP: Sibley/Iosia MB1: Williams MB2: Westerberg L: Hanawahine DS: Okino/Gong

Wondering when UH and Robyn Ah-Mow Santos will make this announcement, to make it official.

I heard one of the local players (that was committed to another school) Might be still in play for the Wahine, no idea if on scholarship but would be a nice get. What year? 2020? Yes

To many things have to occur before Robyn goes to that. Robyn has to many options available to her, that she did not have last year. Like having Westerberg play OPP, and Igiebe at MH, or having Hellvig play OPP, and Wagoner at OH2, or Akana winning the OPP position, just to many options available to Robyn, for that to occur.

Thinking, Bailey would not mind playing for, and learning from, Robyn for 2 years.

Not to get into the "Who is better than who", but Torres seems like the better setter, and a lot more physical than B. Choy, which is why Laniere is not worried at all about her taking over the Utah Offense. As far as 6-2, we have the players in place to run a successful 5-1. I don't think a 6-2 is needed this season.

Iosia is proven and reliable hitter. Choy will be too good to sit on the bench, freshmen will still be freshmen.

Robyn has promised Choy the starting setter position, in 2020, if she does not have to use Choy in 2019. One year to learn Robyn's system and get familiar with the players she will be setting in 2020. That would give Lang one year to learn Robyn's system, and be the understudy to Choy. Lang would not have to be pressed into the starting position right off the bat. It would also give Robyn, two years to recruit another setter. We will all know this if Choy does not play in the first 11 matches.
