All this will explode in everyone’s face if Iosia gets hurt or is ineffective and suddenly, Choy is pressed into action. Actually, all this will explode in everyone's face if it turns out that "[heart] University of Hawai'i Volleyball [heart]" doesn't really turn out to mean that she's coming to play for the Wahine. Maybe she just likes Wahine Volleyball because her idol, Robyn, coaches us. Maybe she is jumping on the Men's Volleyball bandwagon after their great season. She hasn't actually stated that she's coming to play for us this year (or anytime). Or...what if she is going to play Beach?

The Wahine will have 8 new players on their team this coming season, if the Bailey Chow announcement by vballfreak808 is true. Is that the most new players on a Wahine team ever, to start a season?

If koavball is talking about Choy indoors, I'd suggest its a done-deal. Wonder if Choy is on scholarship or walking on, and if we are still bringing in that euro setter? I could see her playing beach too?
In any case, Ah Mow-Santos and staff should be congratulated for such an amazing recruiting class. My goodness. I imagine we are gonna see some Top 25 recruits start committing to UH, and with the amount of local players transferring back, I'd also expect more of the top recruits to finally start saying home again. Hall really had no connection with the local recruits whatsoever. It's disgusting to think about the amount of talent that went away.... Ah Mow, Baxter, and Castello will definitely target the best Hawaii has.
Still wish Hawaii had an experience outside transfer in, but aside from this man... this is a pretty awesome roster top to bottom.
I wasn't for a 6-2 again, but with Choy coming in and Iosia improving even more at opposite... I guess I can get used to it. LOL.

Is it possible that Bailey got Trinity’s scholarship? I don’t think her scholarship was given to anyone. It was held for a backup setter and I think we got one that is even better than a backup.
No way Bailey is sitting. She has big time P5 experience.
Our serving game could potent. Bailey led the Utes in aces. Norene is the best of all the retuning starters.

When coaches say that a player has a very high Volleyball IQ, I firmly believe Robyn Ah-Mow Santos's Volleyball IQ is off the chart. Just by how she coached last year's team. Robyn's strength is her focus and intensity, not necessarily her volleyball IQ. Bringing in Bailey Choy here and now is more of a cage match than a strategic move. My money is on Iosia.

I think Iosia didn't practice hitting at all last season (or she did minimally), and Robyn stated that in one of the games that Iosia only set in practices, so I'm hoping that Iosia will get more reps at opposite. If Iosia hits better than Sibley and Akana at opposite, then I think we should definitely run a 6-2. If we don't run a 6-2, then the battle between Iosia and Choy will be interesting.

I believe we still have one open scholarship left if Bailey is coming in with a scholarship (which I'm pretty sure she is). The recruits that will be scholarship are: Sibley Iosia Williams Rasmussen Hanawahine Akana Hellvig Westerberg Wagoner Igiede Choy The last scholarship may be used to pick up that foreign European setter that was rumored or potentially another transfer, but we'll see. If the last scholarship is not used, it will be given to Ross, and I think that she deserves it. Earlier today, Koa said something like, "good news part deux, Christmas in summer" with an icon of fingers crossed, and I'm assuming that Choy coming is good news part one, unless there was some other good news that already came this summer? Maybe the other good news is referring to the possible 2020 local recruit?

I agree. If no other scholarship player signs, Ross deserves a scholarship as a senior and it would free up any way. I wouldn't be surprised if that scholarship does go to the Euro setter.
As for the 2020 local player possibly staying home, my guess is its Akana as well.

If Keonilei do stay home then Robyn would need to give her a scholarship. Would it be kind of unusual for one team to have two back row players on scholarship?

Wow Choy coming is awesome news. I think Choy having it on her Instagram bio is about as official as it gets, except for an actual official announcement. I see a few scenarios:
1. They run a 6-2 with Iosia playing all the way around and Choy being the other setter. 2. They run a 5-1 with just Iosia. This would be great because Iosia hasn't had another elite setter in the gym to push her since Higgins was playing. One thing Choy brings to the table in terms of setting is her connection with the middles. She really could set the middles well at Utah and I don't expect that to go away. I also recall Utah running the middle really quickly. 3. They run a 5-1 with Iosia setting and Choy being the DS for the OPP. Choy has had 3 years of PAC-12 experience playing back right defense, and I would argue that she was one of the better defensive setters in the country last year. Then Choy could take the second ball if Iosia ever takes the first ball.
Like many have said, I think Choy is too good of a player to not find her way onto the floor.

Keonilei Akana will be a Senior, at Kamehameha School, this coming year. If Keonilei does change her mind and decides to attend UH, in 2020, she would be considered an OH, not a DS/Libero.

Isn’t keonilei Akana only 5’9”-5’10”? Unless she’s a Willoughby, that’s not going to cut it.

A lot of elite schools are actually using scholarships on DS's these days.
It wouldn't be that new for us, Kalei Greeley was basically a scholarship DS her last two years. I actually think the Choy redshirting plan this year is the best one (esp. since it will take her at least two years to get a graduate degree at UH anyway), but if we need her, we need her.
