Found these nuggets on the Idaho AD website: 1) the first 2 Big Sky Offensive POW honors went to Vandals: Ryter & Straw. UH's block will need to come through; 2) Ryter was a DPOW last year - meaning she is a GOOD two-way player - the focus will need to be on discovering weaknesses in the rest of their lineup; 3) Their site considers this match (versus UH) to be a "cornerstone/keystone" (foundational) match. My sense of where they're at - after opting out of DI status - is that ANY good news is gonna 'fly'!

Hmmm....Gettin' some PM-action re: "why are you focused on Idaho so much?". WELLLL: it is called "scouting", tho' in this case it is for fellow fans: not for my HC (when I was an assistant I had two primary duties: recruiting, and...? (five seconds to let ya guess); Scouting!). So, knowing AMAP about Our Next upcoming opponent is what EVERY team needs. Sure UH-Robyn doin' it!

If Castaneda redshirts “against her will”, do you think she might transfer? She was projected by Flovolleyball to be the FOY, that means expectations of her are high. Won’t you think redshirting her would be a letdown? I personally wish that she is playing this season. Move Castillo as OPP2 and keep Iosia with 5-1. Maafala is too short to defend frontrow.

"raian13": I'm usually with ya, but from where (out-of-nowhere) did this "against her will" deal come from? Also, do you just want to give up entirely on Gaskin? Two matches in, I wouldn't!

What I meant was maybe, just maybe, Trinity wanted to play this season but because we have “veterans” lined up on the pins, she was “forced” to redshirt. If she redshirts, will she still be considered for FOY next season? I think she has a lot of potential but not D1 ready? Not giving up on Gaskin, i’m all for her starting. But maybe Iosia needs to focus on setting, although I must admit that she had been very effective on the pins. I just thought Maafala is a liability in the front row as a blocker. Gaskin/Castillo could be an intimidating presence in the front.

I swear some posters make the wildest assumptions and bring up every thought just to discuss their fantasy of understanding the happenings of the Rainbow Wahine. Only one or two posters here are actually on the inside of the team and I wish we left ASSUMPTIONS separate from OBSERVATIONS. Don't even get me started on the social media nonsense before the season even started. Things have changed on this board over the years...
Iosia needs to hit. Period.
And from a coaching standpoint, the current starting lineup and sub pattern that Ah Mow-Santos is the BEST they can put forward without a doubt and from all facets. It lessens the chances of being exploited in their passing (not having a consistent third passer) and also their offense getting stuck in certain rotations (by having three hitters available).
Yes, Iosia is currently the teams second best option on the outside. Leave her there.
No, Castaneda isn't going to add anything more right now that Castillo, Sibley, and Ross can't. If people are THAT curious about her play watch warm ups or a practice, and not reason burning a year of eligibility is needed.

All the hype about Gaskin is truly over. We now know what she can do and what she needs to do to get better... I can't figure out tho, UH don't have a back row attacker, or do they?

The only back row attacker the Wahine have right now is Granato. Do not forget about her. Robyn needs to somehow work Ross into the back row rotation. She is the only one that can play the backrow with some decency, and also able to hit out of the back row. Castillo, and Gaskin, cannot play the back row, they would only hurt the Wahine if they did.

As if anyone could forget this program... I still struggle with this matchup of my schools. Having trouble with the Idaho roster. Anyone know anything about their starting line-up? This is their starting line-up. All Seniors. They would definitely give Hawaii a lot of trouble with a very veteran team. Kaela Straw Sr. OH 6-2 Sarah Sharp Sr. OH 6-4 Haylee Mathis Sr. Setter 5-11 Devonne Ryter Sr. MB 6-0 Reece Carman Sr. MB 6-4 Alycia Wodke Sr. Libero 5-8 If anyone remembers this program from the WAC, they are always very well coached, good blocking teams! Their go-to-players are Straw and Sharp on the outside, but also keep an eye out for their middles, especially Devonne Ryter, she is undersized but very quick.

My father was born in Nampa; guess that makes me "a son of Idaho Boy". Been through Coeur d'Alene, myself. I researched your team; I, for one, am NOT taking this match lightly/ for granted!

Iosia needs to hit, people. Name one other player on the bench that can produce like she is. Robyn wouldn't have her hitting if the team didn't need it.
I also think Okino is doing a stellar job in the back row. I'd rather her defense in the back row with no offense than having Ross's worse defense and minimal back row production. I feel like Okino is "winning" more points for us being back there than Ross would.
That's honestly the biggest difference I'm seeing from last year. Solely based on the Coastal Carolina matches, the defense of the Wahine seems a step up from last year. That and the more even distribution of the ball.

The Wahine cannot take any match lightly, and hope to win. The Wahine are just not good enough to do that, like in previous years.

Do they have some sort of opposite that gets subbed in? Ball was moved to the rightside this year. But expect her to hit middle, they are using her mostly for blocking purposes on the rightside.
