So, I don't know if anyone mentioned it but it seems Donna Heinel's Senior Women's Administrator job at USC will be open. It should be a great gig for someone wanting to move up and make some moolah. Walking into a flaming building...if the person can navigate all the smoke and fires coming out of USC, it would propel them for a top AD role in the future.

Savannah State coach takes a JuCo job in Florida. Did I read somewhere that Savannah State was dropping program? Or maybe going DIII? Savannah was classifying as DII but hasn't played a DII schedule yet because last season they still played in the MEAC. Sad if they are dropping their VB program but funding was at an all time low there. On other HBCU news, Alcorn has its coach. Announcement should be soon I believe. Haven't heard much more about the search at Norfolk State. Any updates there?

Two questions.
1. Anyone know if it's normal or abnormal to include the assistant coach in the interview process (they are not applying for the job). If they are not being included in the interview process for the new head coach, why do you think that would be?
2. I'm curious what are normal expectations and roles for volunteer positions at the D1 level. Let's say maybe a top 100 RPI team but not top 25.

They will start playing DII this fall in the same league they were in prior to going DI. Norfolk had had numerous phone interviews. I do not know if anyone had gone to campus. They are continuing with search. So far no plans to repost.

Sometimes asst are included in search process, sometimes not. Probably included if administration is committed to keeping assistant with program. If not included, may mean new head coach will have freedom to bring in new assistant.

Whoa! didn't see this coming. Best wishes to Melinda. She will land elsewhere if she continues to stay coaching.

Someone at the paper doesn't like this coach, what an unflattering photo...the expressions on all the faces. I wonder if that wall of fame honor they mentioned will remain. Does not sound like an amicable departure.

Is it normal for an NAIA team to play 40+ matches every season?

Volunteer expectations vary so much from program to program it’s really not worth even giving a general guideline. It can range from, “basically the same as the full time assistants,” to a practice player who can also do DV, to somebody who comes by practice 2-3 times per week. You have to talk to the coaches directly to find out what they specifically want.

I think it depends on the school and what role the assistant plays while the HC search is on. Are they an interim or acting HC? Are they ready to move on if the incoming coach would like to bring their own people in? Some places do it to have someone with technical/VB related knowledge on the search, and other places do it because the AC is staying no matter what (contract, GA, etc.). I wouldnt say it never happens but it isn’t typical to have the current AC be part of the search process.

The AD has applicants meeting assistant strength coach, other head coaches, but not the assistant. I'm personally a little disappointed the assistant is not included, the assistant is a quality person with good intentions for the program and an alum. I ask because I found it odd but dont know the normal protocol.
