Announced at today's Spartan volleyball banquet, Kristen Kelsay is leaving as Michigan State assistant coach for a similar position elsewhere. If you know where the openings are, you'll figure it out. I won't totally spoil their announcement. We'll miss her. Who knows, maybe she'll be back at MSU as a head coach some day! Hmmmmm Arielle Wilson who is the volunteer assistant could slide right in there real nice like.

Which coach has the hottest seat in each conference? You know it's a slow job season when it is January and we are already asking about whose seat is hot next year.

WTF? Who saw this coming? I love how they added testimonials from past players to downplay any negative feedback. I think that "what they are saying" sections are common in hiring press releases. What I did find interesting is that it contained players and not coaches and/or administrators. Given how Moore's tenure at Oregon ended, I'm not surprised. I think that it says something that two of Oregon's best players ever are in his corner.

New Mexico fires Jeff Nelson. Sounds like we haven’t heard the last of this yet. UNM is done. Expect an announcement tomorrow.

Any updates on anything happening with Old Dominion? They are going to play in a good conference, but does anyone know if they will be funded to truly compete in the league or is this just a title IX addition to provide an 'experience.'? I just don't know anything about Old Dominion or their approach toward athletics in general.

I've heard from a reliable source that they are all in. Fully funded, renovating an old gym. Head coach and 2 full time assistants. They are expecting to compete in Conference USA immediately (2020)

Which coach has the hottest seat in each conference? I’ll play... SEC: Auburn - no surprise here. Something is not quite right with that program right now. Big 10: Rutgers (CJ is on last year of contract). Aside from them, I have to think that the time is now for Iowa to make a jump up considering the resources they are pouring into the program since Bond’s arrival. I’m sure things are warming up in Columbus as well - but Geoff has the recruits and new arena to make a positive charge...as long as everyone stays healthy. MAC: I would think either Kent State or Akron, but both Don and Tom have done better than their predecessors - just haven’t been able to break through. Central Michigan perhaps will start warming up - but Mike didn’t inherit a great situation. He’s safe for the time being. ACC: Virginia (if they care about Volleyball). Aaron is a terrific guy and skilled coach, but I’m not sold that he was/is ready for that position. Then again, I’m not sure Virginia cares that much about Volleyball. PAC-12: UCLA - I think this has been well documented. Big XII: TCU and/or Kansas State. Jill came in with high hopes of rejuvenating the program. Instead they seems to be trending backwards. Susie is likely safe, but a couple of consecutive tough seasons don’t sway in her favor. Conference USA: signifcant coaching changes to the bottom half of the league. Not sure anyone is getting hot here - but I would expect UTSA to start heating up. Laura has been there for years and the program seems to have stalled. I think she’s safe, but time may be short. AAC: Houston and/or UConn. Kaddie’s program has grown stagnant. With the new arena approaching, administration might be looking for a shiny new head coach to compliment their shiny new facility. Chris has struggled making UConn relevant since he took over. Based on his resources, I’m not sold that the school takes Volleyball seriously - so maybe he’s safe as long as he doesn’t rock the ship.

I don’t know about Rutgers. The amount of money they would have to put in to make ther program decent would be tremendous and I don’t know if they care. Akron- he just got there and they are doing better so I wouldn’t think so.

Yes results have not matriculated (and I should have done better in my reasoning). The overall program is doing better in terms of injury prevention, student-athlete experience, etc. I was lead to believe that the former staff had quite a toxic atmosphere around their program. Tom, to his credit, has cleaned it up. In fairness - it’s going to take him considerable amount of time to build a competitive program. He’s doing everything else right - except win.

I'm not going to claim that life was all unicorns and rainbows, but you were lead to believe a bad mischaracterization. No one that knows Ron (and I have to assume there are many on this board) would believe that he would create a toxic environment. Again, may not have been perfect for some but that was way too broad of a negative statement to not be pushed back on. (insert snarky comments about this being Ron)

(insert snarky comments about this being Ron) Generalized commentary has become the norm and acceptable in regards to all situations. Be mindful in the new athletic department, student-athlete experience is paramount. It’s a interesting proposition to marry student athlete experience with satisfaction with a coach and program when over half of the squad is already adversarial with coach due to lack of playing time. Most new surveys being used nationwide are coming from the business world (thanks MBA leaders) and anything below a 9 is a negative review. Words like toxic, negative, abusive, does not listen, etc will become the norm in reviews of current coaches and their situations.

Chris Hertel will be the new assistant at NMSU, hence the opening at Radford.
