Chris Hertel will be the new assistant at NMSU, hence the opening at Radford. He and Michael have been friends for a LONG time. Makes plenty of sense.

Lafayette has started interviewing, heard they have 4 first wave candidates that they are in the process of interviewing. Yep, after phone interviews last week which consisted of 3 quick questions. Not very in depth. They first called to see if candidate wants to do phone interview after being told the salary and the one assistant coach salary. HC salary $60,000, AC salary was a very paltry $24,000 and some change I think. Last year Lehigh was offering in the range of around $72,000 for the HC and the current Assistant was making $34 to $35 K. Not one team at Lafayette has a winning record from last Spring to this winter. $34-35k? Lehigh has progressed a lot. That's a far cry from the (what's below paltry) $1,700 for the part timer asst at the turn of the century and some more.

I'm not going to claim that life was all unicorns and rainbows, but you were lead to believe a bad mischaracterization. No one that knows Ron (and I have to assume there are many on this board) would believe that he would create a toxic environment. Again, may not have been perfect for some but that was way too broad of a negative statement to not be pushed back on. (insert snarky comments about this being Ron) Generalized commentary has become the norm and acceptable in regards to all situations. Be mindful in the new athletic department, student-athlete experience is paramount. It’s a interesting proposition to marry student athlete experience with satisfaction with a coach and program when over half of the squad is already adversarial with coach due to lack of playing time. Most new surveys being used nationwide are coming from the business world (thanks MBA leaders) and anything below a 9 is a negative review. Words like toxic, negative, abusive, does not listen, etc will become the norm in reviews of current coaches and their situations. no argument...to which I say.... So the Olypmic sports, thanks to MBA type ADs with all business and no athletic experience, have been designated as "babysitting" while the revenue sports are about performance. So...when the university faculty teachers (coaches) conduct their classes (teams) in a way that is demanding(high expectations) resulting in sometimes not yielding the grades/results(playing time) that the student(athlete) would find satisfactory (their student experience), are these professors (coaches) fired for it? Sports were never meant to be a customer service industry. It was meant to be another component of education and development, hence why in the USA, we chose years ago for sports and school to be connected, not separated like Europe. Can we please get these type of people in charge of academics, I'd like to finish my law degree without actually demonstrating my ability to be a lawyer. Did I mention that I also want my classes paid for? So I have no out of pocket costs while you educate me to be a lawyer? Lastly, I am hearing the current Akron coach is a better babysitter than the previous Akron coach? Therefore deserves more time?

Yes, at schools where teachers have no tenure system, theyre fired if the classes are found to be unsatisfactory. There are teachers who handle evaluations unethically out there doing things like buying students pizza to eat while filling out evaluations, not leaving the classroom and giving extra credit if students put nothing but top marks (4/5 or 9/10 sorts). Sad. Generalized commentary has become the norm and acceptable in regards to all situations. Be mindful in the new athletic department, student-athlete experience is paramount.
