But if Illinois and Texas are ranked higher than Minnesota than the algorithm is trash.

Anyone who follows the BIG Ten knows that Minnesota was far and away the best team in the Conference...and Illinois got a HUGE break only playing them one time.

It shows that non-conference matters. Illinois was undefeated in non-conference and beat Colorado State, Colorado, Washington, Northern Iowa and Creighton.

Minnesota beat Florida State (#27) and then a whole lot of nothing. They lost to the two best teams they played in their non-conference schedule: Stanford and Oregon.

That's the difference right there.

Yes, but you realize Illinois got second by 2 games? So even if they had four losses with 2 MN losses, they would have gotten second. But they did play PSU once as well.

I don't suppose you've considered the possibility that it's MN that got the break only playing Illinois one time? MN was definitely the hottest team in the B1G for the first half of the conference season, but one could make a good case that Illinois was the hottest team the second half. They won their last 13 matches. They beat WI, NE, and PSU in that stretch. And just for reference, last year with a much weaker team, they beat MN the second time they played them.

For the record, I have great respect for MN. As the conference champion, I feel they should be ranked ahead of Illinois. But you're making a serious mistake if you think Illinois wouldn't have a chance against MN in a rematch.

A rematch would not have made a difference.  Minnesota won the conference by two matches.

Why are you talking about how many games they came in second by?  The argument is that Minnesota should be seeded ahead of Illinois because the gophers won the conference rather easily, and would have even if they lost to illinois in a rematch.

Of course RPI and the committee does not consider only conference play, but they do consider head to head.  I think Minnesota will get ranked ahead of Illinois in the end.

RPI (and RKPI, which is an attempt to replicate the RPI algorithm) takes into account the entire season, not just the conference season.

I don't know but my adjusted matches the NCAA almost exactly. I think the only difference is having all the scores in the database at the same time. For instance, the NCAA still doesn't have the Lehigh/George Mason Sep 14 match in their database but I do. Consequently, those team's RPIs will not match nor will any team that played them or any team that played their opponents.

You also have Illinois at 28-3 while Figstats has them at 27-3, which results in you having Illinois at 2 and Texas at 3, while they have those two flipped.

And comparing the top 92, your "points" tend to be on average 0.0005 higher than what Figstats has. (I would have done top 100, but noticed some discrencies between the two lists on the 93-99, so I left those out of the averages).

Some other discrepancies (which could be due to the aforementioned missing match results in figstats) that I noticed:
32/33 ETSU and South Carolina
43/44 Duke and Saint Marys
49-51 Colorado, NMSU, and Kansas State
54-56 High Point, James Madison, and Maryland
79/80 Miami (FL) and Tulsa

I'm sure the NCAA keeps its own score database, which automatically calculates the RPIs based on all data currently entered.
Now whether that is correct or not, I don't know. But I doubt it is tied to the Figstats database at all.
