Here’s your chance to select the 2018 All-VolleyTalk team, comprised of:
VolleyTalker of the Year (VTOY) aka VolleyTalk MVP or POY (Poster of the Year)
All-VolleyTalk 1st Team (8 winners)
All-VolleyTalk 2nd Team (8 winners)
All-VolleyTalk Honorable Mention Team (12 winners)
There’s no damn committee. Everyone votes.
General Information
1. The poll lists 50 VolleyTalk posters nominated by YOU. (There was a 2018 All-VolleyTalk Awards: NOMINATIONS thread. If you missed it, check it out.) I’ve also included nominees you didn’t nominate — you lazy bums — that I felt deserved some recognition.
2. Voting will end on December 12, 2018, 11:30 PM (PT).
Instructions:
1. The poll (above) lists 50 candidates for All-VolleyTalk recognition. They are listed in REVERSE ALPHABETICAL ORDER. I'm praying that you all know what this means and can read in reverse alphabetical order.
2. Vote up to sixteen (16) times — one (1) vote per poll nominee. No weighted votes. Think of it as two All-VolleyTalk teams (1st and 2nd teams) of 8 each. Hopefully, we'll have enough participation to differentiate the nominees. LOL!
3. Vote for the posters you personally believe have consistently contributed the best content to this forum in the women's volleyball sub-forum in calendar year 2018.
4. Lobbying is encouraged, if only to remind other voters what your favorite nominees have accomplished in 2018. Lobbying for yourself is also encouraged. You should also vote for yourself because this is not about pride or integrity; it's about winning.
5. Sit back and enjoy!
Voting criteria:
Vote for the posters you personally believe have consistently contributed the best content to this forum. What does this mean? Please focus on the key words: “consistently” and “best content.” You can use any combination of factors:
Who are the best posters on a consistent basis throughout the 2018 calendar year?
Which posters post valuable (i.e., insightful, informative, interesting) content?
Which posters put in a lot of man-hours to generate valuable content?
Which posters make this a better place?
Whose posts do you look forward to reading every day?
Which posters make you laugh? Cry?
Which posters make you want to “up” your game?
Which posters make you think and talk about volleyball in a different way?
Which posters provide a valuable service to this community?
Note: posters don’t necessarily have to be thread creators. Posters who merely reply all the time can be just as valuable through their honest, insightful, and flat-out amazing posts.
How are the winners determined?
1. The top vote-getter wins the VolleyTalker of the Year (VTOY) aka VolleyTalk MVP aka VT POY award (Poster of the Year)
2. The top 8 vote-getters are on the All-VolleyTalk 1st Team
3. The next 8 vote-getters are on the All-VolleyTalk 2nd Team
4. The next 12 vote-getters are on the All-VolleyTalk Honorable Mention Team
Why 8 on the 1st team, 8 on the 2nd team, and 12 on the Honorable Mention team?
Well, it's all arbitrary. Almost. Volleyball = 6 players per side, plus libero and defensive specialist. Honorable mention has 12 because 6-on-6 competition plus 12 scholarships. Really, it's all arbitrary. I could've easily done 10 on 1st team, 10 on 2nd team, and all remaining on Honorable Mention. In 2016, we had 6 on 1st team, 6 on 2nd team, and 12 on Honorable Mention. I thought that number was too small so I increased it a bit. Honestly, I'm making this up as I go along.
So, you weren’t nominated?
The poll feature limits me to 50 nominees. We had more than 50 nominees. To get down to 50, I had to make some hard choices by including some and excluding others. I gave priority to those who were the most CONSISTENT and INFORMATIVE and INSIGHTFUL contributors on this forum in calendar year 2018. As much as I would like to nominate everyone, it's just not possible. Sometimes, you may provide great content but we just can’t remember you. Something to work on for 2019. Arguably, there are many posters who may have contributed a lot more than the nominees above but were not nominated. It happens. We're all human. We make mistakes. Sorry, bud.
What about the valuable posters from the beach and men's volleyball sub-forums?
Beginning this year, the All-VolleyTalk Awards will be limited to active posters in the women's volleyball sub-forum. If someone wants to step up and do an All-VolleyTalk Poster Awards for the beach and men's volleyball, you're more than welcome. The posters in those sub-forums are very deserving of recognition but I personally don't know much about them.
I should also add that the same applies to the Off-the-Net sub-forum which is populated by a bunch of losers, as you might imagine. Screw those guys.
What if you were nominated but you didn't get any votes in this poll?
Well, it’s bound to happen. I think you all contribute something special to this forum, but as we all know from these “All-American” type lists, there is a finite number of slots. Not everyone can win. Many of you won’t receive a single vote. That’s okay. That doesn’t mean you’re worthless. You’re simply up against stiff competition. So, don’t cry. It’s not a big deal. This is just for fun. There are 50 nominees -- but only 8 will make the 1st team, 8 will make the 2nd team, and 12 will make the Honorable Mention team. That leaves 22 nominees who will get nothing. Get over it.
