Unfortunately, it is not going to get better until he mans up and puts Susan in her place or gets rid of her. The girls are not learning from her and do not like or respect her. Now, they all are high on Mike and Kiki and even Joe when he is himself. So, that dynamic needs to be addressed. Otherwise, I think the next few weeks we still see a couple of roster changes with possible minor transfers and some transfers in. The portal is probably going to explode across D1 once the tourney is over. Did players tell you these things about the coaches? Or are these your conclusions based on watching the team?

But I assure it is reliable info.

The head coach should set the vibe for the team and if not, he's not really the head coach. He's just a delegating figurehead, who shows up on game day in his tie and starched shirt waving clipboards and gesticulating and playing the role of a head coach.

Which makes sense considering it seemed pretty obvious Eve and Tyler were running things back then. He’s essentially a CEO coach it seems like.

With all these notes about Susan, isn’t she our recruiting coordinator? Not a great person to have in that position.

With all these notes about Susan, isn’t she our recruiting coordinator? Not a great person to have in that position. Not sure who all on this thread are actual fans (and I’m not wasting time researching the post history), but if you are truly a fan, getting on an anonymous message board and discussing how bad things are at your school of choice (whether the performance, the atmosphere, the staff, the admin support-whatever it is) is a great way to help guarantee that the program will have to overcome potential obstacles with recruiting and team atmosphere moving forward since you are heading off potential recruits at the pass somewhat and creating more bad vibes for staff and program. And if you are not a fan, it is so sad to resort to anonymity to slander another program. I just hope that recruits and families are not as fickle as many on VT are to believe all that they see and “hear” on an anonymous message board or to buy-in to the gossip in the vb community about a program. Hopefully, recruits and families would check the program out for themselves before writing it off. Just a reminder for posters on here who care about a program, for Pete’s sake (in this case, for Joe’s sake), if you can’t say something nice, keep your pie hole shut!

In the end, the state of the program falls on Joe and his staff, but if the state continues declining that is on Bubba Cunningham!
I think that we can still have a great future, we just need to work on the dynamic between players and coaches if our coaches remain the same, which I am sure they will. Vball wise, w Lauren gone, we need an OH that can pund the ball and put it away in or out of system.

I care about the program enough to know it is not going to improve until there is a coaching change.

The program improved substantially this year. Yes Lauren was very good and it will hurt to lose her, but the other athletes on the team also contributed to that improvement, and will continue to get better, more experienced and stronger. I feel like after the least 2 matches of the year, everyone is forgetting the middle of the season and the in-conference play. These athletes and coaches worked very hard to finish where they did, so let’s not take that away from them. Rome was not built in a day and neither was this program, so let’s let them do their thing.

I care enough about the program to continue supporting them, attending as many games as I can and watch the ones I cannot. I also care enough about the program to not be ok with ignoring the incredible red flags occurring inside the team... based on information given to me by friends close to the program and some of the players, and my overall impression of what I’m seeing as well. Not talking about the issues doesn’t erase that they are happening.
Yes, there was growth this year and it was exciting to see it! But even with that growth you’re seeing star players leaving and quite possibly more to come. That’s not discounting the work the girls put in but there is something wrong if after having a successful year there is potential for significant transfers... again. It may happen. It may not. But it doesn’t sound like the program is giving the girls what they deserve after they put in the work they did.

I think the best thing at this point is to settle down and take a breather....weird coming from me.....Lauren choosing to transfer was based on several different things. While I do not support the old way of coaching and do not like the discord of coaches on the bench, when things were going well, they were really good. Like a poster said, the middle part of the season, we pulled things off I never thought this team would have. In regards to losing Lauren, I think we still have a lot of good quality athletes that can keep the program moving in the right direction. Frankly, It was more disturbing to me that we relied on Lauren so much....we need to find balance everywhere and we have the athletes to do it. I still think we need a really big OH transfer, and another OH transfer for depth.
In regards to the coaches, I am not a fan of on a live stream, that fans can see your HC and your AC obviously disagreeing and almost spatting. That does show that there is some power balance out of place or that they cannot manage their emotions. While I am for a coaching change and think it would create a better culture, I am less of a Susan fan than a Joe fan....Joe is old school and his time is near, but I think that the middle of the season shows he can coach and they can turn things around. Granted, a lot of this was with the help of Kiki and Mike.
Lets sit back and see what happens the next few weeks to see if we hear of transfers and see how spring training progresses.

If Mike or Susan was the head coach, your post would make sense to me, and it would make sense to be patient for a few more years. But Joe has been at UNC for 30 years and he is in his mid-60's. He ain't gonna be any different yesterday today or tomorrow. It will be more of the same.

Hadden LaGarde is officially off the UNC Vball team. Not leaving UNC this spring but is not on the team. So that is now two open roster spots on the outside.

So does that mean she is transferring or is she just done with volleyball?
