Just thought I would repost this here (...from bluepenquin on the thread referenced below)
Back of the envelope calculation - the hardest to easiest: 1) Wisconsin 2) Washington 3) Minnesota 4) Nebraska 5) Baylor 6) Stanford 7) Pittsburgh 8) Texas
Wisconsin may have been fortunate to get a regional seed, but they didn't get a break in the subregional. Pittsburgh didn't get a tough subregional - but that potential regionals is murder.
So this makes most likely to get upset in the 1st two rounds:
1) Washington 2) Minnesota 3) Wisconsin 4) Nebraska 5) Baylor 6) Pittsburgh 7) Stanford 8) Texas
AND Wisconsin and Stanford have by far the toughest 1st round matches - which stinks for their opponents (Illinois State and Denver) since Wisconsin and Stanford are probably the 2 best teams.
Wisconsin and Washington probably have the toughest 2nd round matchups in UCLA and Colorado State. Stanford and Texas probably having the easiest 2nd round matchup.Read more: volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/79551/who-first-top-seed-out?page=1#ixzz66z0EYdouI wouldn’t say Wisconsin is the 2nd best team I would say Wisconsin has VERY high highs And low lows (Ohio state and at Washington) We have smoked some great teams this year But Wisconsin needs to play great for longer stretches to win this tourney.

^^which is why they need to seed all 64 teams. Volleyball is big time now.
They should be playing the 61st best team in the tournament.

Why punish teams or reward teams just because of geography. I think it's great for a program like Illinois State to come to a big time venue like Madison, but why force them into such a tough matchup early on. Same for Denver. And why does PSU get cupcakes that can't hope to win their, and whose fans can barely make it to Happy Valley?

Exactly, reading about the salary that the tOSU coach will command, and tournament success is a major component of the head coach job, it just can't be this random any longer. They can at least make a B pool of the 17-32 teams, a C pool of the 33-48 teams, and a D pool of the 49-64 teams and require a B, C, and D at every sub-regional. Then they wouldnt have to seed everyone directly, and they could still finagle travel stuff, but it would be significantly more fair.

Who is the only player in the Sheffield era to (all three of the following):
Never reach a NC match Never beat MN Never win the Big Ten.
All others have done one or more of those.
(Players who left early or transfered out do not count)

Clearly, to the victor go the spoils. All 5 hitters plus the setter get all-B1G honors. Impressive work by the young women.
