My question is who is in the Libero Jersey friday This is my biggest question too. Autumn came in and passed/dug better than what we’ve seen from Sydney lately but is that enough to warrant a start?

I'm pretty confident come Friday that Sydney will be wearing the Libero jersey she's sported every single match this season. While she struggled in the match against UCSB, and Autumn stepped up to the plate when her number was called, I just don't think that changes all the reasons why Sydney had been the starting Libero every match for the last 2 seasons.
This is similar to when Jhenna subbed in for Shook at setter last season; it took a while for Jhenna to firmly become the starting setter. Wasn't a decision based on just one match.
Now, if the coaches see something in practice this week that determines a change in the starting Libero is warranted, I'm sure that would be the reason Autumns starts, and not just the performance in the UCSB match.

It’ll come down to who practiced better in the gym this week. I’d put money in Sydney starting, but with a shorter leash than normal. I have to say, I think it’s great Sydney has come in and pushed the other two to improve. Maybe it’s a senior season thing, or maybe it’s seeing a frosh come in and take the role the wanted. Either way, I’m happy we have options back there

Yep, coaches will definitely have been monitoring Sydney during the week. My only caveat here would be the just HOW badly Petersen played. Passing a 1.6 is the equivalent of shanking OOS passes 2 out of every 3 attempts. I would expect for Sydney to start but if I don't think she'll get 3 sets if she continues playing that badly. She'll be on a shorter leash. We'll find out about her mental toughness. It's never the first mistake that tells you about a player, it's how they react to it.

I recall you provided volleymetrics for how Petersen performed on Friday. Not sure how that compares to her season long numbers.
As for Autumn, my biggest concern would be her having to serve the entire match as a staring Libero. Although she had zero service errors against UCSB, most of us on here who have followed her career at Texas the last few seasons know how much of a struggle serving has been for her. We just can't afford to have our starting Libero be a serving liability, giving free points to the opponent, and preventing our offense from getting into a good scoring run/rhythm.

big match on friday y'all Are you referencing the Minnesota vs Florida match? I would like to see this match go 5 sets with each set 30-28, 32-30, etc. LOL I think Texas got a wake up call from UCSB and will come out with the broom against Louisville.

Well, since you asked (sort of) I just looked... Sydney's season average passing grade is 2.17. Given that 2.2+ is considered good and 2.4+ is all American, we'll say that's solid (Autumn is at 2.18). Against UCSB she actually didn't pass a 1.6. She passed 1.43. That's simply not good enough to win a match in the tournament (and was a big reason they nearly lost). Elliott won't allow a repeat. Regarding serving, their error percentages this year aren't actually that dissimilar. 7.8 for Petersen and 9.1 for Rounsaville. But Aumtumn has only served 22 times this year. You're quite correct that last time she was starting (2017) she had an error rate of 16.8 which is FAR too high for a serve that isn't that tough even when it does go in. But maybe she's corrected that. Regardless, Sydney MUST play better or she simply can't be on the floor. And for what it's worth, I expect her to.

Nice to know not everyone wants to burn me as a heretic!

I like your contributions also. I have to say that some of your detractors remind me of some of the people pushing back on advanced stats in baseball, but worse. Instead of being a bit skeptical of WAR as a be-all, end-all, it was like they didn't even want to consider something fairly basic like OPS+.
