Rollins has her problems, no doubt, but Samedy is NOT a better defensive player than her. My hope is that Samedy, sometime before she graduates, learns to use both her arms on defense occasionally and covers a tip.
For now, the only reason to have Samedy in the back row is to save on subs. I suspect that's not a good enough reason anymore and we will see a lot of the 6-2 going forward.
If this sounds harsh, I'm sorry. But I have really high expectations for Steph.

The only thing I think Minnesota should change in terms of system is having their left sides pick up the other teams left side tips. They are constantly diving across, making poor contact and taking themselves out of the offense, just let the setter take it or samedy, if samedy takes it you still have middle and outside, if setter takes it you still have oppo and left side. When the left side takes it you only have the D ball or oppo because it's always a. Diving save, never good enough to set the middle and turns into a scramble play.

Minnesota has been bad at tip coverage for a while now. Why hasn’t it been addressed lolz

This team needs to settle in for the rest of this season and for the future. As painful as it is to watch, it has to be the same for these players. Experimenting needs to be over and tough decisions on what players will be playing and what offense we will be using needs to happen. I don't know that it as much experimenting as it is due to necessity. There wasn't much "experimenting" going on when Miller was healthy. Now, it appears as though Morgan isn't 100% which would lead to more line up changes. I don't that Rollins was 100% against OSU, either. I do believe, Miller or not, that a 6-2 needs to be run. Bayley in the front row isn't a good option. And, it gets Miyabe into the match which is good. She has played well and it also gives Samedy a break. Number of substitutions will be an issue, though. MN did run out of subs against OSU in the 3rd last night.

Might be a good idea to use Sheehan toward the end of the set instead of Kilkelly, as Hart's sub.

Responding to Badger Buddy's comment: I felt before Miller's (and briefly McGraw's) absences that MN's play made them capable of beating anybody in the nation (witness the Stanford game) and possibly to go a long way in the BIG and the NCAAs. But after the home game vs. Purdue, and the injuries following it, it's been kind of a circus, which indicates the value of Miller; her tempo and court coverage made the team jell. But who knows. How many other teams could go 16-3/10-1 in such apparent disarray? I think the constant flow of MN fans' critiques won't slow for a long time until they get more of the big-time titles they (the fans) thirst for.

Watching last night's match. Must say, I am LOVING the confidence McM is showing! Before she seemed to be a little more meek, but since getting a couple of blocks and aces she's become much more open and comfortable. Still only at set 3 (beginning). Samedy bounced a ball toward the end of set 2 slaughter. What's good to see is the support on and off the court.
Sidenote: Sandbethie and Ruby-right? K then.
Edit: If the 6-2 means getting more of Miyabe, I'm for it. Although Bayley's blocks were very fun to watch. Seeing McM next to CC might've confirmed she is <5'9. Loved seeing Miyabe get some confidence, too. Dolonga looks like she wants to run something faster. Seems to have a lot of that "fast twitch", but what do I know.

Could Miller be medically redshirted?

I had the opposite impression of Bayley last night. She seemed frazzled after missing connection with nearly everybody and seemed to be pressing.
Thankfully Samedy and Hart kept them in the match and then they rolled in set 4 and survived set 5.
They have yet to lose in sets 4 or 5 this season.

I think she has been regressing, but I totally get why that would be. There's an ENORMOUS amount of pressure on her and she has limitations that cannot be wished away. Hell, there was an incredible amount of pressure on Miller, and she has a lot more talent. I have nothing but admiration for what Bayley has been able to do. I just don't have any delusions about what is possible, what the ceiling is going to be. Her team could help her immensely by passing and serving better -- and defending.

Is it reasonable to assume that Miller won't return?

Is it reasonable to assume that Miller won't return? I’m kind of mentally prepping myself for that. Even if she did return, I couldn’t see her being even 85% of what she was before the injury, as much as I hate to think that.

Sure would be nice to know what happened, even if it isn't any of our business.

Agree on the regression, but for sure it's kind of surreal to think that she was on the bench her entire freshman season and had little likelihood of seeing the floor this year. It's kind of incredible that she has kept the Gophers in the running in the B1G.
