Why do we care if there are or are not hard feelings between current gophers and transfers or if the program? I was just making an observation. I will check with you next time.

From my observations, the fans are about 10000x more upset by players transferring out than the players are.

Yeah, well not everyone leaves the program by doing the equivalent of farting in the elevator as you step off leaving everyone else to deal with the stench.

Now back to business when do all the girls get to campus? I’m noticing some teams having their photo shoots and such. I am excited for all this to start happening, and see the whole team together.

Hugh's Summer Volleyball Camps are going on this entire month. I have no idea if the 2019 season Gopher volleyball players are obligated, expected or asked to be there to assist in these camps. Maybe someone with that knowledge can speak to this.
Husemann will be coming in this fall with an already heavy deep position for the Gophers. With that said, it appears her playing time would be very limited this upcoming season
I too am interested in seeing this team bring in another setter. I think a fair statement would be this coaching staff more than likely expected a transfer or two but not all of those that did take place.
Others have asked if Hugh was changing strategy and bringing in more height to his team. I say, by just looking at the strong opposition in the BIG, I think he does need to address this, especially in the middle.
While Hebert was here, we use to be much stronger at libero (Gentil,Peniata,Tan,Granquist) and MB (Olympians Gibbmeyer,Dixon). Since Hugh became the Gopher Head Coach setting (Palmer,SSS) and OH (Santana,Wilhite). In all fairness to Hugh's OH recruiting, he did bring in a few highly ranked players, but it appeared all struggled in adjusting to his preferred 6 rotation player offense.
I would think a common goal for several NCAA players is to become an Olympian some day. I am sure many of these coaches have to change strategies to accomplish both team and individual goals. So, more height appears to be what the USA needs to address to keep up with the rest of the world in the sport of Volleyball. Bottom line, has Hugh changed strategy or not or has the sport itself changed?

I believe there is an international setter joining this fall. On the short side, so I would assume her to be a backup.

I had a feeling there might be one more setter joining the team. Any more info? Last year the fall roster was updated over the July 4th holiday. Hope we will see the new one soon too. Haven't heard much on Miyabe lately either but hope all is well with her transfer in.

Bottom line, has Hugh changed strategy or not or has the sport itself changed? I think USA has the most height across the board, especially since many international teams (basing this off VNL) had no clue how to deal with 6'8" Rettke. I don't know of any other players over 6'6" that are not from the US. While height will matriculate into Team USA (probably will see this closer to 2024), I think the real issue is getting 6-ro players. Not sure when 15 sub rule came in, but NCAA as a whole seems to find true 6-ros kinda rare at this point. On one hand, you could argue it's good with retaining players' interest in the game (i.e. DS flexibility, OH/OPP hitters not being as fluid on defense). But I think it's been more detrimental as far as development goes, especially with international rules being much stricter on subs. Examples of missed back row opportunities: Hart and Duello, among many others. Amazing swings, but would miss out on back row action (also assuming they'd be great back row attackers). Not being 6-ro means they'd probably be lucky to crack 2nd Team AA. Deberg's transfer to Mizzou could be an instance of breaking the cycle. I do hope to see more of that type of development in the NCAA.

On that list was TAMARA DOLONGA www.ncsasports.org/womens-volleyball-recruiting/international/zagreb/-gymnasium-zagreb/tamara-dolonga

Well that's interesting. Tamara Dolonga - a 5'8" setter from Zagreb Croatia? She'll be a nice addition. Gophers need another setter for back-up and practice at least.
I will add that I don't know why these things aren't announced? Its exciting to get an international player and its a relief to have a third setter. I checked and the boys football roster is updated for 2019, why not the girls volleyball?

Miyabe is here, unless my daughter was confused about the player she saw at camp (and, I won't lie to you, that would not be a shock).
