We're nearing first serve quickly. Bold predictions for the season? There will be a freshman starting at MB, and it won't be Robinson... I am going with Pertofsky.

Even if Pertofsky gets the nod at MH2, I’m still inclined to think Rosen would find a way to get Robinson on the court. She’s too talented to watch from the sidelines because of the impact she could make at either pin. By the same token, it’s tough to see Jones, Wetterstrom, or Glavinic being upended, barring any mighty struggles or an injury.

I think the best thing is that there appears to be healthy competition all along the front row. Let's face it, our middles were disappointing last season and did not stack up well against their B1G counterparts. I like having the eager youngsters in the gym pushing the veterans. Listening between the lines in Rosen's latest interview, I wouldn't be surprised to see some form of a 3 middle offense given the roster makeup.

Last year’s offense had the feel of a three-middle style as Bair and Glavinic broke into the system. I really thought Welsh handled it well, so I wouldn’t be shocked to see something similar with Robinson/Pertofsky involved to open this season.

Cliff Keen is an ugly building in an otherwise beautiful campus.

Report from today's Maize/Blue scrimmage:
It's always interesting to get that first look at your team with some fresh faces and a new team dynamic. The Wolverines bring in four freshman this season and although Jess Robinson might be the most highly touted in this class it was May Pertofsky (6'1" MB/OH from LA) who made the biggest impression. She is quick, versatile and has a hammer of a serve. Robinson also showed off her athleticism in what looks to be a very competitive battle between the rookies and veterans for play time.
Here was the starting A Team lineup: Welsh, Bair/Pertofsky, Jones/Wetterstrom and Smith at libero. Rounding out the A team in S1 were Robinson and Beals. After S1, the lineups were juggled. General impressions:
- Welsh looks to be on top of her game, I really think she's the best player on our team right now. It's no longer the Carly Skjodt show, she has multiple weapons on this roster and spread the ball around well today. She set the pipe to Jones and Wetterstrom with a lot of success. - The middles are in a war with each other to get on the starting lineup. By putting Bair/Pertofsky/Robinson in with the A team in S1, Rosen threw down the gauntlet to the veterans. - Glavinic looked great at OPP and OH today, I don't know how she stays off the floor. - Jones and Wetterstrom played 6-ro all day and looked okay. At one point, Jones rattled 5 straight serves off of Wetterstrom playing middle back. It's going to be critical for these two to hold their own on serve receive. - Everyone appeared healthy. Crocker was on some load management and sat out a set. - The biggest concern for this team is going to be first contact. The DS/libero corps struggled. If they can't get a decent pass off to Welsh, it doesn't matter how many weapons she has.
Mark Rosen has some decisions to make this week as we head into opening weekend. His team looks a little rough around the edges right now ( I suppose every team does at this time of year) but he has enough talent to be competitive in the B1G. I don't feel like this team has as high of a ceiling as the 2018 squad but the potential to get better by November/December is definitely there.
Go Blue!

Definitely excited for the season but our back row makes me nervous. Can’t pass, can’t compete in the B1G. No thanks to the transfer a couple years ago but more importantly why didn’t we get a transfer libero in?

Losing Lerg definitely stings, but Rosen sounds very confident in Smith and it sounds like she did very well on the Foreign Tour.

A 3 way race for libero? I still think Smith has the inside track but you can tell the coaches are concerned about ball control.

Our last pre-season Rosen Report: Mark starts out picking his teeth, then discusses tapering early on; team building; how they prepare for opening week and the challenge of facing NAU. Go Blue!

First serve is in less than 24 hours! It'll be interesting to see which two middles are in tomorrow morning's starting lineup. Other than that, the rest of the lineup seems pretty predictable aside from who will be subbed out for a DS or for a serving specialist.
