I was at the game. Honestly the passing was not the issue set selection and pace of the ball made it hard for the hitters to stay in rhythm. I hope Tamas looks at his setting options again this post season. Alision was a top recruit for setting... Work on her. I think she's still getting reps as a setter is she not? I can't imagine Tamas neglecting that part of her game. I admit I'm biased because I would like to see Cooney back on the right. If they do make the tournament, is it wise to switch up your setters? One is a FR and has time to learn and develop but does benching her crush her confidence? The other hasn't gotten as many reps and may not have a great connection with your middles? Do these questions even matter if they don't get into the tournament?

This might just be Browns season of getting reps, but I have higher expectations because she RS. I'm not thinking we make it to the tourney but still hopeful.

Well that was awful. Experts, is there any chance we still make the tournament? WSU beating Washington does not help.

With St Johns beating Marquette, one more at large bid goes away. The Loss to NU kind of sealed our fate.

What is the prognosis of making the tournament? Can anyone give me a break down?

Anyway thanks to the seniors Quade, Welsh, Prince, and Flemming who transfered in last season. Dont think we would have made it far without her last season Big thanks. Sorry for Prince that she was fighting the injury all year. Would have been a different team if she was at full strength at OH this year, letting Cooney stay on the RS.

So thoughts on next season... Big struggle with graduating the 2 most impactful players? Kennedy will need to step it up. Battle for middle 2 between Kyla, Rylee, and freshman Maddie? Who becomes a 6 rotation? Bruna? Ellie? Does Mica stay as hitter or challenge Diana for setter? Go to 6-2? Eske or Chi replace Caro? For Illinois to be good they really need Bruna and/or Ellie to have big seasons. I just don't see how they will be good unless they all take big step forward this offseason.

Well, I have said that Illinois needs an infusion of talent. With the B1G not following their own rules about transfers within the conference (remember, they have NOT, to my knowledge changed the rules about sitting out a year and losing a year of eligibility). Any player from any other B1G team can transfer to Illinois without suffering any of the transfer rules. As explained in an interview by Wisconsin's Coach Sheffield, DS Tiffany Clark was allowed to transfer from Michigan to Wisconsin by appealing the fairness of the two parts of the B1G rule, losing a year of eligibility and having to sit out a year. That transfer by libero Clark, vastly improved Wisconsin's passing and defense. Minus the Tiffany Clark transfer, Wisconsin would have been substantially weaker at least for a year. Then two years later, Wisconsin was able to get another DS/future libero to transfer within conference. That is Lauren Barnes from Minnesota. Now, I will be perfectly honest and tell you I do not know what Barnes used as the basis for her appeal to the B1G Ten eligibility committee to skirt the transfer rules. However, once again Barnes was allowed to start immediately for Wisconsin. I would have to assume that she used the same appeal strategy already successfully used by Tiffany Clark.
So to my mind, it is open season for B1G players to transfer to any other B1G school without fear of losing a year of eligibility or at the very least, sit out a year.

The coach from the transferring school has to ok whether or not a player needs to sit out a year.

The coach from the transferring school has to ok whether or not a player needs to sit out a year. Is this true in volleyball eligibility? I have heard that in some major sports the school that is being transferred from gets to pick certain schools that cannot be transferred to by the transferee. I do not if that is true in volleyball. If it's true in Clark's case that Michigan had the option to have her lose a year of eligibility, and to their credit did not do so, Clark still should have sat out a year.

Short article on match and Illini chances of NCAAs by Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette writer Matt Daniels:
EVANSTON — "Now, They Wait."
The Illinois volleyball team didn’t help its NCAA tournament chances with a four-set loss on Saturday night at Northwestern, with the host Wildcats winning 25-18, 20-25, 25-18, 25-20.
The 24th-ranked Illini (16-13, 11-9 Big Ten) will find out if they’re part of the 64-team NCAA tournament field when the selection show takes place at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, with ESPNU televising the pairings. Illinois reached the Final Four last season, but sits squarely on the bubble going into Sunday night.
“Maybe a little bit of pressure in the moment trying to seal our tournament spot,” Illinois coach Chris Tamas said. “I think our resume is still good enough for that, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
Illinois sure would feel better about its chances for a third straight NCAA tournament appearance with a win against Northwestern. But the Wildcats (14-18, 5-15) played the role of potential spoiler, with Nia Robinson producing a match-high 22 kills.
Jacqueline Quade (18 kills) and Ashlyn Fleming (10 kills) led the Illini offense, while Diana Brown handed out 43 assists. In the end, though, it wasn’t enough to provide a season sweep of Northwestern.
“We did the best we could all year,” Tamas said. “I know it wasn’t the same as last year, but we didn’t expect it to be. We had to fight and claw every single step of the way, but I’m really proud of how this group battled. It’s not over until someone tells me we’re not playing.”

I talked to a lot of the parents last year who said the chemistry was the main difference between the 2017 disappointing season, and the 2018 great season. I haven’t talked to any of them this year as I moved out of the area, but I wonder if the Chemistry is bad again. I know it’s a convenient excuse for losing teams, but this team underachieved given the talent on it. I don’t know enough about volleyball to blame the coaching staff, but I do believe there’s enough talent on this team to be good. Last nights showing made it seem like the girls wanted the season to be over with . Next year I think will be far worse than this one was. Replacing Jackie is near the same loss as replacing Poulter. Mica really needs to step up and be a dominant player. Don’t think she lived up to the hype. Mo will be good next year. Kuper ok. The rest lot of unknowns.

No, they were talking about 2017 season. We had 4 or 5 transfer after that year was done. Not that they were bad players, but no one (at least on the team) was upset they left. And in 2018 again the parents said the chemistry was way better. You wouldn’t think there’s be issues since many of the 2017 issues were Hambly recruits deciding to play for Tamas. Tamas now has mostly a roster he picked himself.
