Jacqueline Quade to UCLA Beach (Grad Transfer) Jacqueline Quade checks all the boxes. Excellent student, excellent volleyball player, top-notch human being! (When I think of UCLA...several things come to mind. My husband and I being at the 1984 Rose Bowl together. Mike White's 1983 Big Ten champs, 9-0 in conference, were humiliated by UCLA 45-9. Lots of rumors about the activities of the Illini football team partying hardy in southern California prior to the bowl game. Rumors included the team getting wild at Illinois alum, Hugh Hefner's Playboy Mansion. Also, the evening before the bowl game, the rumor was that many of the Illini team members got high smoking weed the night before the Rose Bowl game. As the two of us slinked out of the Rose Bowl stadium after the game both decked out in Illini Orange and Blue, I remember very distinctly being chided by a group of UCLA fans, "a lot of good wearing orange pants did for your team!") (And then there is the NCAA National Volleyball Championship match in 2011 when the Illini were defeated by UCLA (-23,-25,-24,-16) in San Antonio. This was after we had topped USC in the semi-final in a 5 set thriller.) (Finally, having to sweat out Colorado high school recruit Jordyn Poulter's choosing between her two favorite schools, UCLA and Illinois. Poulter wanted to study cinema in college, and it would seem that UCLA would better fit her academic plans more than Illinois. I did not know early on that Jordyn had family ties to East Central Illinois, and that she had grown up being an Illinois fan. Her bedroom as a child was decorated in Illini Orange and Blue!)

On Bruna, she was injured pretty much all year. She will be able to apply for a medical redshirt 6th year at some point. Has to wait until she completes the next three years first.
Lots of examples on the basketball and football sides. Tracy Abrams in basketball, for one. Dre Brown in football is another although he just decided not to go for the 6th year since he is married and thinks it’s time to move on.

Thanks, combes. If she still has thoughts of playing professionally, I doubt she sticks around that long, but we'll see.

So @bigwestfan2 just posted onto the Big Ten 2020 thread some Big Ten passing numbers from the 2019 conference schedule and from what I can tell, it looks like our very own Caroline Welsh led the B1G! Congrats to "Caro" on the great achievement! As an aside, I wish we as fans at large had access to the Volleymetrics stats that coaching staffs do so we could give our student-athletes their due on something as critical as serve-receive. Thank you to bigwestfan2 for sharing these advanced stats with the rest of us! The copied section from that post follows the photo. Big Ten schools ranked from first to worst in terms of 2019 passing grades. Best primary passer and worst primary passer, with their respective grades are also listed. All stats are conference play only - to keep things more equitable. (1) Purdue 2.22 - best passer Hornung 2.28 - worst passer Otec 2.17 (2) Penn State 2.19 - best passer White 2.31 - worst passer Parker 1.84 (3) Wisconsin 2.17 - best passer (joint) Clark & Dodge 2.27 - worst passer Haggerty 2.01 (4) Illinois 2.12 - best passer Welsh 2.38 - worst passer Quade 2.00 (5) Ohio State 2.11 - best passer Murr 2.23 - worst passer Franklin 2.06 (6) Michigan 2.09 - best passer Smith 2.13 - worst passer Hamacher 1.94 (7) Iowa 2.08 - best passer Boyer 2.22 - worst passer Hughes 1.98 (t8) Nebraska 2.03 - best passer Kubik 2.13 - worst Sun 1.85 (t8) Michigan State 2.03 - best passer Gibbs 2.13 - worst passer Norris 2.03 (10) Indiana 1.99 - best passer Malloy 2.14 - worst passer Edwards 1.88 (11) Minnesota 1.98 - best passer Sheehan 2.06 - worst passer Hart 1.83 (12) Rutgers 1.97 - best passer Marmen 2.04 - worst passer Kojadinovic 1.92 (13) Northwestern 1.91 - best passer Pitsas 1.99 - worst passer Cronister (14) Maryland 1.91 - best passer Rivas 2.11 - worst passer Rath 1.75 Read more: volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/79924/big-2020?page=8#ixzz6EM165VrM

Thought some other Illini fans might enjoy Jackie's Personal section of the UCLA roster: Full name: Jacqueline Ann Quade ... born in Fort Wayne, Ind. ... parents are Rick and Jennifer Quade ... has three older brothers, Richard, Daniel, and Michael and one older sister Hannah ... chose to attend UCLA, "Because of the strong combination of athletics and academics, and in switching to beach, I wanted to be in a very competitive environment" ... lists the challenge of playing beach volleyball and getting out of her comfort zone in playing a sport with just one other person instead of five other people as the thing she likes the most about the sport ... biggest athletic thrill to date making it to the Final Four of the NCAA Women's Indoor Volleyball Championship at Illinois (2018) ... favorites include the TV show is "This is US," the movie "How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days," and favorite artist is John Mayer ... lists reading and going on trips or to the lake when she is home as things she likes to do in her down time ... working on her master's degree in education and has career aspirations to play professionally (either indoor or beach) and then get her teaching credential to teach in high school (leaning toward history). Go Beach Bruins!
