Whew! I believe Illinois being selected over other deserving teams indicates that the B1G was recognized and rewarded by the selection committee for being the top conference in the country. The B1G has been edging up over the last several years surpassing the PAC-12 as the dominant women's volleyball conference. I strongly believe the B1G has the best group of head coaches, and more current top teams with several super-athletic, hard hitters than any other conference. I believe I am correct in adding that in the past several years the PAC-12 has usually received at least one more team selected for the tourney than the B1G.

Pleasantly surprised. Didn't pay attention to the selection process yesterday because I assumed I would be disappointed.
I wasn't bothered by the early season losses. I thought Tamas had to play a lot of different players and play them at different positions as there were so many unknowns. Having to play Cooney on the left side was necessary but weakened two different positions. Cooney belongs on the right side, both for blocking and a steady attack. No one, at least on this board, thought that Kennedy Collins would start at middle. Heck, no one thought she was a middle, including Tamas who originally started her on the right side. How different would the season be if Kennedy's swing at match point against Penn State been 6 inches in any direction, up, down, right or left?
I have been bothered by what appears to be a deterioration in both passing and setting since the PSU match. Our first contacts have been all over the place, something that is not attributable to either youth or injuries. Our lack of terminations from the pins became more of a problem as the year progressed, largely because there was little consistency in the setting, attributable to both our passers and our setter.
There was a discussion about whether Terry and Holzman will make a difference next year. They can but will not if passing and setting does not improve. I have to believe that the potential is there, as evidence by our play early in the BIG. Hopefully, lost confidence was the problem and that can be addressed over the Spring and Summer seasons.
Looking forward to showing Utah our capabilities rather than our recent performance. Go Illini!

There will be a lot of attention on Illinois, and a couple of other teams, based on some unpopular decisions by the committee. Nebraska jumping ahead of Pitt, and Purdue being awarded a Top16 seed over teams with higher RPI and poll numbers.

Just wanted to give my kudos to 6'3" Jr. reserve OH/OPP Emily Hollowell who appears twice in this video. Hers is the last image on the video appearing to encourage her teammates. Emily is from Texas, and has seen very little court time during her 3 seasons at Illinois. I would bet my social security check that Hollowell will not appear in the match this evening. However, she always catches my attention during Illinois' hitting warm-ups before matches. What is the popular volleyball vernacular, "she hits a heavy ball"? My opinion is her hitting has improved every year she has been at Illinois. What I especially like about Emily is how much she seems to enjoy being on this Illinois team. When I watch the reserve Illinois players on the sidelines during matches, Emily is as vocal as any other. I have seen her during a pause in the action at Huff Gym individually lead the home crowd into doing the "wave". As Coach Tamas has commented before, all he expects from every player on the Illinois team is to contribute in whatever way they can. Hollowell epitomizes that, and well-represents all of the "bench-players" on all of the NCAA teams playing in the tournament.
