In all fairness, most of those on the first team committed to school before Tamas took over.

No point in bringing in talent that doesn't fit your coaching style, system, or culture. These lists aren't the end all be all on D1 talent. I don't think there's cause for panic. If the staff can develop talent and continue to develop athletes after they arrive, I don't see what the problem is. Please don't start with the keeping IL kids in IL argument.

At the D1 Power 5 level it takes a minimum of 4-5 years before you see the full results of a given coaching staff's recruiting. It's still early in judging the Illinois staff's capabilities in this regard. But it's worth noting that as an assistant at both Cal Poly and then Nebraska, Tamas had recruiting as one of his primary responsibilities. How have those two teams done in the 4-5 years since Tamas was there? And as someone else noted, recruit rank isn't the ultimate metric for judging what the future holds. Talent development and other factors come into play. As an example, Quade came in as only a #70-80 recruit and developed last year into a first team AA. Even Poulter didn't reach her full potential until her 2nd year with this staff and the system they installed. A single disappointing third year after two excellent ones is insufficient to accurately assess and predict the future of this program.

I think Maddie Whittington will be a dark horse at Illinois. She is physical and has a lot of emotion. We could really use that after Prince leaves. I also think Holzman would be an automatic OH for us if she returns back to how she was playing before her injury. She's a smart hitter, hits hard, and uses the block. We had a huge freshman class so I just hope every sticks with this Illinois team and get better next year. My main concern is setting still. This year the OH were barely in rhythm. When your OH arent in rhythm and are tipping its going to be a rough season.

And the Volleyball gods answered the ILLINI Nations prayers! Let's hope Coach Tamas lights a fire under their butts.

Congrats Illinois on making it (although I wasn’t really hoping). I am surprised, to be honest. Thought the loss on Saturday did them in.

Yeah possibly, I'm not sold on her to make much of a splash when she first gets in, but it would be a great surprise. I think Collins was a huge surprise I thought she would be benched for sure but she was stable in the MB position. But anywho WE ARE GOING TO DANCE

No slouch but we atleast got in tbh didnt think we were. I think if we are able to play the way we did earlier in the BIG we have a chance. But if we played like we did yesterday it will be a fast trip, but still I'm happy the seniors got to dance on their last season

Yeah, they've played a lot of elite teams very close. Haven't been swept all season. We won't be favored in this matchup, but you never really know with matches like this. And if we do get past Utah, I like BYU as our second round matchup. Regardless of what happens, I'm happy for our seniors that they get one more shot. They deserve it.
