The 2019 Illini Why doesnt Illini VB social media post more? I feel as a fan we should be getting more pictures/videos of the team and things like getting to know the players. I feel like fans/future recruits like seeing teams being interactive using social media. Do you follow other vball teams? Just seems to me like most of the teams that do a ton on social media aren’t the elite programs. I feel like Penn State hardly ever does anything, and they’re doing just fine as a program. Mid-tier teams tend to do more because they gotta work with what they got, I guess.

Expectations may be too high, but that team graduated its two best players who were outsides. That completely changes a team. This team graduated JP, which is going to hurt a lot. But the outsides are intact, so this team will definitely not go 16-14. We’re expected to be 5th in conference. Anything lower than that would be tough to swallow. But anything better better is icing on the cake. A good season would be an elite 8; final four is not something we can count on. I don't know that any team can expect a final 4 finish before the season starts, as Seeding in the tourni is major in the odds of that occurring. Even Stanford could see itself hiccup in its out of Conf schedule and then not get a top 4 Seed in tourni, maybe having to travel & go through Minnie or Neb or Texas to get to final 4. I also don't know that I would start a season expecting a final 8 or sweet 16 entry either, as that seems to me to be something you wait til the Seeds are announced for tourni, see who has to go through who, and those who are favored then make predictions of getting to sweet 16 or final 8. I think just predicting a tourni appearance or Seed in the tourni is probably the only decent prediction. I most certainly believe Illini will be in Tourni, and believe they will be Seeded, everything after that is just the way the chips fall. You surely have the coaching staff for it.

Starting line up predictions? My impression from Chris Tamas's recent interview on the News Gazette podcast is that there are a lot of injured Illini who won't be available tonight. Allison, Hollowell, and Prince didn't play in Saturday's scrimmage so I'm going to formulate my lineup without them, and it sounded like Bruna may be out, too. Here's my lineup guess with those assumptions: S - Brown OH1 - Quade OH2 - Collins OPP - Cooney MB1 - Fleming MB2 - Hinton L - O'Brien DS1 - Kuper DS2 - Welsh 5-1 offense, with Quade playing six rotations

It will be hard to compete with a top 20 team on the road with that lineup. As much as I like our freshmen, they haven't seen anything like what they are going to see this weekend.

Leaving the office early so I can go home and stream the match. I'll try to give updates on the thread as much as possible.

2020 Recruit Maddie Whitington..RS/MB 6-3 PV Senior Ace No. 52 "Whittington is a blocking savant. Her eye work and ability to read the angles hitters are creating (and therefore the position needed for her to intercept) make her one of a kind at this skill. Her timing is fantastic, her net penetration unparalleled. “It is not unheard of for the ball not even to cross the plane of the net for up to six or seven attempts in a row by her opponents,” noted Kokoro director R.T. Luczak. Whittington started with 100 blocks as a varsity starter her freshman year and blocked everything that came her way in Kokoro’s run to a club-level national championship later her freshman year, where she was named tournament MVP. She hasn’t stopped since. A knee injury cost Whittington much of the 2018 season but she came back stronger than ever last year. The 10-4 toucher has an unlimited toolbox of shots and the ability to overpower with her swing. Her vision at the net coupled with a high volleyball IQ make her one of the top terminators whether she plays middle or on the right side. In addition, Whittington hits and defends well out of the back row. Rounding out her game is a competitive fire that is infectious and helps bring her teammates to a higher level. Committed to Illinois, Whittington will use her skills to be a multi-position threat for the Illini as soon as she sets foot on campus."
Fun Fact - her Mom played one year as MB for the Illini

She has been competing for middle. I expect one of Bruna or Prince to be ready if not both. Welsh will likely start but she’s got real competition, IMO.
