If only every program treated the captain position so respectfully. Knowing their captains have been through such training commands respect from teammates which would not be a factor had the formal training not been attended. I am so impressed with this process. How can this be anything less than a tremendous benefit to the team, the coaches and to the two so blessed to have been selected? This is now a resume enhancement for both of them. Not getting the “LOL” at all. it demands respect that they have gone through this training? I thought you earned respect among teammates by being a supportive and selfless teammate. Maybe that does need trained? The LOL was in gest because I had never heard of such a thing. I realize that college sports is a big business and especially for a program like Nebraska, every advantage they can get makes sense. *COMmands. There is a difference. I didn’t read the rest since you started off with a misquote. Edit for clarity: To demand respect is to tell others, “You will respect me!” or otherwise threaten or punish those who do not act according to your wishes. To command respect is to have others observe and admire your actions of their own volition.Oct 26, 2015 Dr. Christian Conte › demanding-respect-...

Leadership training: Lots of critical discussion on an aspect the NE volleyball program; a program that is operating at a very high level; hopefully that will continue; I suspect so.
Obviously some strong opinions. I can see leadership training being very helpful to the captains in several ways: Helping them carry-out their added responsibilities, helping them build "team" cohesion, trust, etc., And helping them deal with the added stress of being captains in part by better defining their roles as captains.
But again I speculate on what is in the training.
Demand vs. command. I understood the point. IMO just having the training doesn't do that. How leadership is shown does that, and the training should help achieve that. Hames and Stirvens will do well in that regard. Good natural leadership skills and they obviously absorb training well. Again just my opinion.

What I would like is when somebody posts "so-and-so is enrolled in a leadership training workshop," you know the next question is going to be "What the hell is a leadership training workshop?" So, it would be nice if people elaborated on what this "leadership training" is.
