Kudos to CAL POLY's Lea Ungar,...BWC Defensive Player of the Week. Remember last year Lea was a freshman on the team making all those common freshman mistakes. She has come a long way!!! www.gopoly.com/aotw/2019/ungar

Has coach Walters and her Lady'Stangs turned that corner in maturity and experience?
The first step in this process comes in the form of a match this Saturday at Goleta facing UCSB.
CAL POLY goes back on the road for the 12th time against their Central Coast rival.

We hear about many things, but, never never any reporting on players' injuries. This might be the norm for all schools. Obviously,...mind-boggling for fans.

Doesn't look like anyone will be doing one of those polling threads for the CAL POLY v. UCSB match tonite.
So,...I will make my sole prediction>>>CAL POLY in 4-sets.

CAL POLY's loss in 4 at UCSB is a head-scratcher.
All you can point to is home court advantage is bigger than one might guess.
Reality: POLY needs to develop more offense from the middle. Dvoracek needs HELP!!!
Big let down from McRoskey, Jackson & Mercer.

Dvoracek needs HELP!!! Big let down from McRoskey, Jackson & Mercer. Let down was the whole team. Can't pin this on one player as everyone did not play well. Games 1, 2 and 4 Cal Poly's passing was all over the place, not allowing a lot of in-system tempo sets to the middle and pins. Credit to Santa Barbara though, they were blocking well... in part because CP didn't pass well, and because SB was on top of their blocking game and had the hitters charted well. CP's serving was not tough enough to put pressure on SB's passing and you saw this in the lack of defense CP had. SB just did what they wanted on offense. And that was without Ruddins. Outside of the middle to end of game 3, CP was not in control of any part of that match. If CP had played like that against Hawaii the week before, the sweep would have gone to Hawaii easily. I expect CP to figure things out and get back on track. They had an opportunity to take control of the Big West and instead have created a 3-team race.

The is a very accurate description of what occurred. I did not understand CPs game plan. They were slow to make adjustments. Never made SB uncomfortable in any aspect of the game.

Passing is so often the cause of matches going "south". Did our coaching staff just over look UCSB? Of course, coach Walters has stressed,...one match at a time so frequently, it's hard to fathom. Yes,...this now looks like a three team BWC race. Crucial CAL POLY gets back to work and takes these next two matches that are on the road.

This was a match of huge importance in the BW race. What I think happened? They had a game plan that accounted for Ruddins being in the line up. With such a high percentage of sets going her way CP was caught off guard with her not playing. This affected their game plan in that they had to figure out UCSB without Ruddins. Who was SB's primary hitter? How do they attack SB's serve receive? How does their defense adjust to not focusing on Ruddins? Maybe they had some mental lapse in that without Ruddins playing they thought it would be easier and let their guard down. Who knows. It could also be as simple as CP just had a bad night.

Too many possibilities,...whether it created that many strategy missed cues,...hard to say. POLY lost sets 1& 2,...won 3 than lost 4. Making adjustments first by CAL POLY than UCSB. Must win for CAL POLY when UCSB comes to Mott. Any idea if Jamie Stivers is expected back this season?

Dvoracek needs HELP!!! Big let down from McRoskey, Jackson & Mercer. I was at that match. UCSB outplayed them in many aspects of game. Definitely controlled the block and the net in the games they won. Also, the UCSB libero was playing out of her mind. She was everywhere and that chase late in the 4th into the Gatorade buckets was play of the game, got the place rocking and knocked Poly out.

It won't happen again when the two teams face off in SLO,...too be sure!
