How come nobody thought about pairing Noreen with Hellivig. I think it could work. They will be familiar with each other with their play for the indoor team. Hanna have enough beach savvy that both her and Norene could be in the top three flights. I think. I considered this pairing, but I think it depends on whether or not Iosia can become a full-time defender. I think she has the skills to do it, although I feel that Iosia could be better at split-blocking or just being the primary blocker.

My pairing for next t season is:
#1....Martin/Ozee #2...Scoles/Napoleon #3...Iosia/Hellvig #4...Loker/Maidment. #5...Russo/Sato
I just feel Hall will find room for Sato. She have too much vball knowledge to not play somewhere. From a legendary volleyball family and a starter at 2 schools, she could strengthen our lower flights.

Hall needs to recruit better and recruit Europe more. Next season is wide open with UCLA losing the twins and Sponcil and Graudina missing the season. Another good transfer (or two) or an european recruit may put UH in serious title consideration.

Another good transfer (or two) or an european recruit may put UH in serious title consideration. Wouldn’t be surprised if Graudina does not even return to USC. After playing high level ball in Europe and pursuing her Olympic dream, USC would be a “step down”. Volleyball seems to be her focus and not school.

I like this line-up, but no love for Dreeuws? I think she’ll continue to improve as a defender, and she could probably play in the 4’s and maybe even 3’s.

I think she will be in a battle for PT with Sato but I think Sato being a senior and is supposedly a smart more mature player, she will get the nod. We shall see. I know Paige is bummed out being removed in favor of Noreen. It could fuel her fire to play better or it could kill her confidence. I think Paige is going to be in a battle not only with Sato but maybe even with Hannamenn and Hardisty, who are both similar in size to Paige. Hannamenn has the medals to prove her accomplishments and Hardisty is a very smart and athletic player who played OPP and setter in HS.

I like Dreeuws but if she cracks the line-up next season it will be at the 4-5's. She might be at the same trajectory as Ari was playing in the lower flights until her final season...If she improves every year at least, which I hope she does. Ari was a winner in those lower flights, and Paige didn't exactly carry flight 5 as most would like.

This made me tear up. Ari Homayun is a winner in my book underdog or not. It's more than just the 118 wins.
Looking at collegebeachvb.com Martin currently has 84 wins...hmm...These records may or may not last as long.

Someone should start a "Hawaii 2020" thread.

Potential 2020 Roster:
Returning Top Flight Players: Amy Ozee Julia Scoles Morgan Martin Pani Napoleon Kylin Loker Sophia Russo Paige Dreeuws Norene Iosia
Returning Bench: Ashley Stevens Regan Hurkett Jenna Banz Kristin Abels
Incoming Players: Maia Hanneman Sabrina Hardisty Anna Maidment Ilihia Huddleston Blossom Sato Hanna Hellvig (?)
I say we have a pretty solid roster next year with most of our top flight players returning. Martin, Ozee, Scoles, and Iosia will certainly step up, and I’m excited to see how they guide the 2020 campaign.
I think Ozee will drop to a lower flight unless she is the primary blocker. They tried Ozee/Martin earlier this season, but I don’t think they were as productive (unless they work on it starting now!).
Here’s my prediction/dream pairings:
1. Martin/Ozee 2. Scoles/Napoleon 3. Hellvig/Maidment 4. Loker/Dreeuws 5. Russo/Hanneman or Hurkett/Stevens or Banz
I would also guess: Loker/Huddleston Loker/Iosia
I feel like Hurkett and Banz/Stevens deserve a chance to play above Russo. She did well but I think she’s still reliant on a dependable defender.

Looking at the 2020 roster they really are another transfer (like Kan or Scoles) short of being title contenders.

I think you have pretty much the same pairings as I do (although Dreeuws/Maidment are sort of interchangeable depending on who is the better defender), other than for the 5's which is pretty much open. I sort of actually kind of ended up liking the Russo/Iosia pair a bit. I didn't expect them to win any of their matches in the NCAA Tournament (sorry, haha), but they surprised me by beating Stetson's 5's, and they also pushed Cal Poly's 5's to a 3rd set, and they were up 8-5 in that match (Dreeuws/Russo were 0-3 against Cal Poly's 5's). We'll see if they continue that partnership, but I also think that an Iosia/Banz or Stevens pair can be good as well.

Everyone stop discussing 2020 stuff. I’ve created a thread for that. It was driving me insane that y’all were discussing 2020 crap in a 2019 thread. I mean, WTF?

Losing is losing, but they were at least competitive. Maybe Dreeuws/Russo doesn't have the chemistry we all assumed and they just balled out.
Maybe someone who's had more time watching the team and Dreeuws, can answer this...Does she always seem to layout or lay on the sand for a long period of time like she did in the BW tourney? (Maybe she got the wind knocked out of her diving for ball(s), or just upset at herself for not getting the dig, maybe even hurt herself)
