SCU leads Gonzaga 11-5 in the 5th. Now 13-8.
Gonzaga wins set 4 25-21 over USF. We're going five. LMU up 12-11 over Pacific in the 5th. Now 14-11. LMU with a match point. St. Mary's up 24-22 on Pepperdine in the 3rd. And the Gaels win set 3, 25-22. Take a 2-1 lead on Pepperdine. The Gaels almost pulled off the upset over LMU on Thursday. Can they get it done against Pepperdine? Can Pepperdine come back and win two straight sets?

Santa Clara took the fifth set 15-9 for the win over Portland. (I know they went 5 just to help out trojansc 's fantasy game...Shaffer had 8 kills, 25 assists, 3 aces, 9 digs, 3 blocks). Santa Clara had 14.5 blocks for the match to Portland's 6. Lots of battles today. I wonder what LMU's season would look like if they had everyone healthy. They are fighting/slogging through every match. Edit: I see Rose Booth is back, so that's good. Having a healthy Megan Rice is huge for this team. She's been playing great the past few matches. SF has an early 5th set lead over Gonzaga....both teams fighting to not be on the bottom of the conference. 6-2 in the fifth

Come on, San Francisco. Up 9-3 in the 5th on the Zags. I predicted you'd win. Don't fail me!
Match point for USF. 14-7. Go Dons!

THE DONS WITH THE PENANT! THE DONS WIN THE PENANT!
The Dons do it, 15-7 in the 5th.
USF wins their first conference match, 3-2 over Gonzaga (who put up a valiant fight to the bitter end). Sorry Zags, but I had to root for USF after picking them for the win.

USF assists: 66 | Zags assists: 57
USF blocks: 9 | Zags blocks: 10
USF digs: 126 | Zags digs: 115
USF aces/errors: 5/12 | Zags aces: 4/11

Just tuned in this set, but it seems like Pepperdine is beating Pepperdine in this match. Lots of needless errors. SMC up 20-17. TO Pepp.

This is turning into a pretty sad year for the Zags, who were respectable just a few years ago.

Pepperdine keeps setting Wylie with lots of 1 sets, and she doesn't hit particularly hard, and is hitting into the block.
Saint Mary's takes the match 3-1

St. Mary's wins it 25-22 in the 4th. Bad set to the outside leads to a wide cross-court shot.
The Gaels get the upset win over Pepperdine, 3-1. With the loss, BYU is alone in 2nd place at 7-1, while Pepperdine drops into a 3rd-place tie with LMU at 6-2.

The teams that we all keep feeling should be in solid 3rd and 4th place behind BYU and USD seem to be having so many struggles. I understand LMU with a slate of injuries, but really no excuse for Pepperdine not dominating some of these matches. Or, perhaps, outside of BYU and USD, the WCC is just a general mess... Hmmm. I'm not saying I'm there quite yet, but if I were, could we substitute "generally competitive" for "a general mess"?

SCU made adjustments after losing the first 2 sets. Portland never does... I guess it's easier to just blame the team.
