I'm not super sold on San Diego yet, so my top ten would put Pepperdine at #2, followed by a tie of LMU and San Diego. I think the rest of the rankings are realistic. San Francisco unfortunately lost their spunky two year setter. Santa Clara is a mystery team. In 2014, they were also picked to finish 9th, but with a really strong freshman class, they finished 3rd and went to the tournament. They have some nice freshman recruits again this season and a large, seasoned sophomore roster. Pacific is still putting the pieces together after a massive 2018 exodus and playing with a 7 or 8 person roster last season, but they did surprisingly well with the players they put on the floor, so should only improve with the new recruits. Portland loses their 3 year setter to UCLA, and that will be a hard component to replace. I could see them potentially finishing lower.

LMU’s new uniforms this season are atrocious. They look like Ole Miss. LMU’s colors are not red and baby blue. They are navy and maroon, unless something has changed!? If they play like Ole Miss, that will be a problem.

usdtoreros.com/news/2019/8/13/womens-volleyball-toreros-ranked-21st-in-avca-preseason-poll.aspxSan Diego is getting some love in the polls, but I see them finishing behind both BYU and Pepperdine this year. SAN DIEGO—San Diego debuted at No. 21 in the 2019 AVCA Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced Tuesday by the organization. The Toreros will look to build upon a successful 2018 campaign in which they made a run in the NCAA tournament. USD knocked off Cal Poly and USC to advance to the third round for the first time since 2013. The Toreros will play five matches against four teams selected to the preseason top-25. USD opens the season in Manoa, Hawaii at the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Classic, where the Toreros will face No. 13 Washington (Aug. 31). In their home-opening weekend, the Toreros will host No. 2 Nebraska (Sept. 7) before playing host to No. 14 USC on Sept. 19 as part of their second invitational of season. The Toreros face 2018 WCC champion No. 9 BYU in Provo on Oct. 18 and in the Jenny Craig Pavilion on Nov. 15.

pepperdinewaves.com/news/2019/8/12/womens-volleyball-four-waves-selected-to-all-wcc-preseason-squad.aspxI think this team is going to do great this season, they have a good chance of winning the conference. Excited to see how they perform OOC. Especially the tournament involving Cal Poly, Pitt and Utah. Four Waves Selected to All-WCC Preseason Squad WCC RELEASE MALIBU, Calif. — After an inspiring season and a trip to the NCAA Championship second round in 2018, the Pepperdine women's volleyball team was slated to finish 3rd in the West Coast Conference this season. Four Waves were also selected to the All-WCC Preseason Team, the most of any other school in the conference alongside BYU. Seniors Hannah Frohling and Tarah Wylie, junior Shannon Scully and sophomore Rachel Ahrens all earned the honor after having strong seasons the previous year. Frohling finished with an All-WCC first team selection last season, while Wylie and Scully earned honorable mention status and Ahrens tabbed a spot on the All-Freshman squad. BYU was picked to finish on top again this season with 81 points and nine first place votes from the coaches in the conference. San Diego was second with 71 points and one first place vote. Pepperdine was selected third, while PCH Cup rival LMU and Saint Mary's rounded out the top five with 66, 58 and 52 points respectively. Pacific and Portland each tied for sixth with 33 points, while Gonzaga (32), Santa Clara (18) and San Francisco (16) closed out the poll. For the preseason team, the Waves and Cougars were the only schools to have four players earn a spot on the squad. San Diego and LMU followed with three apiece, while Pacific and Gonzaga each tabbed one person on the team. The Waves open the 2019 campaign on the road at the North Texas Challenge on August 30 with matches against Tulsa, North Texas and Illinois State throughout the weekend. Pepperdine returns home on September 5 for the team's homeopener against Cal Baptist at 6 p.m.

LMU and LBSU played 4 games today at LMU. Set 1 LMU won 33-31, A little bit sloppy, as expected but also some very good play showing what each team may be capable of. Set 2 LMU won 25-17. Set 3 LMU won 25-14. Set 4 LMU won 17-15. Each team played a variety of players and lineups, though LMU seemed to put in more players and mix the lineups up. LBSU relied heavily on Williams who can certainly pound the ball and she played all 6 rotations, her passing is a little sketchy at this early point and LMU seemed to serve to her to avoid Harward, who was solid as usual. Beach middle XUE wasn't a huge factor in the match, got her hands on a few balls and actually had the toughest serve for LMU to control. Swesey distributed the ball pretty well though LMU served tough and did keep the beach out of system. Martinez was inconsistent but put the ball down hard a few times and was pretty athletic out there. Freshman Katie Kennedy had some good moments too and looks to have some good potential. LMU looked solid and seems to have pretty good depth. They served aggressive and though they gave up quite a few points on missed serves they never let up, even when the game was on the line. OH Slattery was pretty effective and played the 1st 3 sets, coming out then staying in in what seemed like the LMU plan with most players. Frosh outside Booth was impressive too along with Freshman middle Walters and libero Schroll (sp?). Megan Rice didn't play, had a strained AB so was rested but only as a precaution. The Beach needs to tighten up their play or they will have some difficulty this season. You can see their potential. I don't see the advantage yet of keeping Williams in at this moment for all 6 rotations unless they at least use her from the back row now and then, which I can't recall happening. LMU looked pretty good for the first scrimmage and for the first time in some memory have good depth on their roster and a bigger block so pretty impressed with their defense too. Spotted Kathryn Plummer's parents in the stands, friends with the amazing Hailey Harward, and a decent sized crowd all made for a good start to the volleyball season. Gotta say, I don't think the uniforms look bad on LMU, as many have commented on this thread, at least the Home ones.

Any word on Zelaya at Pepperdine? Is she projecting to be the starting setter? 5-1? 6-2?

What does the new logo look like? This is a step back. I wonder what athletes who played there 10, 20, 30 40 years ago think about all this. Notre Dame never rebranded.
