If its helpful, the matches I am planning to see this morning are: 8:00 - Taylor/Jake 8:50 - Ryan/John 9:40 - Brunner/Priddy (also two other US matches with Slick and Kolinske playing) 10:30 - Adrian/Rossi or George/Thiago 11:30 - Australia 1 women 12:20 - Borger/Sude and Kerri/Brooke (not playing each other but I want to see both) Sometime around 2 or 3 Second pool match for US men I would convert these from Australian time to PST for you but I don't acknowledge any US time zones other than East Coast I could see Brunner/Priddy winning their pool, they are in with 2 French teams, that are new. don't know why Aye and Krou split. I'd favor Brunner/Priddy staight up over Slick/Allen. Agree. Slick/Allen are a solid team and did well in their last run, but for teams that contend on the FIVB, as Priddy/Brunner aspire to be, they should be a win 4 out of 5 times if not more often

Or do they just decide a random match on the Volleyball Australia live stream?

Volleyball Australia facebook page is streaming Court 1. Unfortunately for us, 3 USA teams are playing at 4:40 central time and they are on courts 2, 3 and 4. AUS team of McHugh/Schubert understandably on Court 1.

Pretty easy win for John and Ryan. Looks like all the center court matches are archived on the FB page.

That’s a long flight! Any updates on what you’ve seen live so far of the matches? Jake’s knees ok? Taylor mentioned on the Sandcast episode that Itami not anything major, just wanted to keep it healthy for the upcoming season.

Wow. Jake and Taylor got pushed to three sets by the 32nd seeded Spanish team. They really struggled with the Spanish blocker. If he didnt get >7 blocks on Jake in Game 1 Id be surprised and he also blocked well the other 2 games. Every now and then Jake would take a big jump and hammer a cross court ball, but he looked like an older player, playing at 8 am on a chilly day. They still won though, largely because the Spanish blocker couldnt side out.

Taylor mentioned on the Sandcast episode that Itami not anything major, just wanted to keep it healthy for the upcoming season. From Southeast Asia, its still a long flight but not nearly so bad. Also nice to go from a country with unrelenting humidity and temps in the 90s daily to a cool dry beach. John/Ryan versus the Japanese was amusing. The larger Japanese guy was very small (listed at 6'1 - no chance he is that big) and the defender was tiny. About 5 points in John already looked irritated, admittedly his default, and at the changeover he was giving Ryan blocking advice with accompanying hand motions. For a second it seemed like Japan would get a game but eventually Ryan started blocking them and that was that. Stafford/Billy won pretty easily, although I thought Billy missed a ton of digs and a lot of the balls he did get he controlled poorly. Stafford was physically dominant although he did get a few trademark telegraphed swing/blocks. Reid was excellent. Every time the opposing team attacked it seemed like he would get a dig or a touch. He sided out when he got the chance although they havent quite got their transition game perfected yet. Theo could have been better but that lefty Frenchman (Aye) is so awkward it must be hard as a blocker to deal with him. Of the men's teams I saw this morning (I missed Miles/Billy) Reid and Theo looked the best and of all the US guys, Reid was definitely the best. One thing I really like about him is every time I see him he is playing hard, whereas a few of the other guys seemed affected by the wind, cold and probably travel. (Not necessarily US guys, although Jake was not at his best, but a lot of the players)

Without seeing the match, I would speculate that Jake getting blocked so often is a sign he’s not getting his max approach jump, possibly due to a lingering knee injury.
