It's always interesting when I drive down HWY 101 from the Bay Area to San Diego. From San Jose to San Luis Obispo County, you see predominantly Hispanic people. (This is during gas and meal stops at the towns along the highway.) And then, when you get into San Luis Obispo County, it's like this gigantic transformation like in the movies and everyone is White! As you continue south, it becomes less and less White until you get to Los Angeles where it's predominantly Hispanic and Asian. Further south into San Diego, it's Hispanic but you see some White people. And the Santa Clara-San Mateo-San Francisco area (which is, essentially, the mythical Silicon Valley) is predominantly Hispanic, Asian, and Indian. If I throw a rock, I can't even hit any White people unless you're in Palo Alto or Atherton. That map is pretty deceptive, as are your anecdotal observations. Coloring with relative numbers leaves out important details, like there are more Hispanic people in San Luis Obispo county than in San Benito county. As for Santa Clara, San Mateo, and San Francisco counties, I don't think the word "predominantly" is accurate. Here are the census numbers: Santa Clara County (1.8M): Asian 38%, White 32%, Hispanic 26% San Mateo County (.8M): White 39%, Asian 30%, Hispanic 24% San Francisco County (.9M): White 40%, Asian 36%, Hispanic 15%

There is no way she didn't have peeps in the department that knew what was going on and aided her in this scam. Donna appeared at USC in 2002 and she had her share of "People" who were beholden to her. many people in the department were scared of her.........................all she to do was play the LGBT card and could easily lose your job. Look at her wrong and it was harassment. That is F*ing awful. Women like her will leave a horrible mark on a department, agency, etc. and it will take years to undo the intimidation, bullying and toxic environment she built.

Gee that sounds great. "Hey, you're kind of an idiot. Did you cheat your way into school?" Students are reporting on fellow students they do not like. It gives new meaning to the words "Trojan Family" A Trojan family can exist only if the Trojan tears. Many times.

First thing I wondered was whether she was involved in the chaeing at UNC, she was and they actually addressed it. And they also addressed the role she played in the Silent Sam decision. Also good to see a couple of Asian students speaking up at USC.

And the thing is, people like her is hardly a unique case. There are vermins like her populating various workplaces across the country, to the detriment of workplace productivity, morale and trust. And upper management is somehow shocked when cases like this get exposed. But they have to look in the mirror on how they let the environment get so toxic. This is office politics gone out of control. And Donna Heinel is by no means an isolated case.

Mick Haley was fired by this woman because she could and nobody could would say no because she everyone cowed by her so called credentials. Lets not give Lynn Swann a pass on this. The buck stops with him and he let her get away with it.

And the scary thing is, how many other competent and capable coaches...come to think of it, not just coaches, just any capable employee of an organization, have been railroaded by people like Donna Heinel? It was fortunate in this case because her wrongdoing has been exposed. There is Karma. There is payback. But there are other Donna Heinels out there, what do you do if you are the victim? Unpleasant thought, but it's reality we have to face.

And I know he's pursing an age discrimination legal action against USC. Not sure the chances of success. Mick is 75, so he's not exactly young, but if his mental and physical health can hold up, he should be able to keep coaching.

Peeling the onion. Former USD Basketball HC Lamont Smith Named. www.10news.com/news/local-news/former-university-of-san-diego-basketball-coach-lamont-smith-named-in-college-admissions-scandal...”The initial indictment, released earlier in March, alleged real estate developer Robert Flaxman paid about $100,000 to get his son in the “side door” with the help of a USD coach. Federal documents claim an FBI witness and Smith worked to accept Flaxman’s son, an Industrial Systems Engineer Major, as an athletic recruit, although he did not play basketball.” He also paved (paid) the way for his daughter, but she declined attending this school. More...
