Hello I've been following your fine forum for quite some time, looking for information about American players who come to play in Europe and now I decided to create an account to post information about how they perform in Europe (well, in Polish league in particular) in case anyone is interested. It took a lot of time to get accepted but here I am , English is not my native language but I hope I can make myself understood Regarding Carlini going to Chemik, I don't think it is a legit information . Chemik, although the richest club in Poland, gets less and less money every year from their sponsor Grupa Azoty, so I don't think they could afford to pay Carlini's substantial wages. Plus even if somehow Chemik would have a bigger budget next year , it would be wise if they spent that money signing an opposite or a decent outside hitter because that are their main problems , the current setter Sladana Mirkovic is relatively good. The same source revealed also that another American players might be heading to Poland : McKenzie Adams (from Palmberg to Łks Łódz) Alexandra Frantti (from Mulhouse to Grot Budowlani Łódź) Ebony Nwanebu (from Büyükçekmece to Legionovia Legionowo ) Really hard to tell if those are true. As for the transfers from Polish league, Chiaka Ogboku isn't the only American hot commodity; Brittany Abercrombie, who signed with Radomka Radom in December, has had a pretty impressive season, and she might be leaving as well. Thanks for the info! I've heard about Abercrombie's impressive performance this season. Looking forward to seeing her at a higher level of competition.

Roni Jones Perry in a recent interview announced she's going pro and will be playing somewhere in Europe. She name-dropped Turkey, Italy and Poland. I have a feeling she may be going the route of Poland because she went more in-depth on Poland's volleyball culture... I'd expect an announcement post-graduation.

Also, any word on where Mckaela Foecke is playing next season? Or Ali Bastienelli? I heard rumors that Busto Arsizio is interested in Foecke, but I don't think it will come true at the end. Italian clubs are allowed to have at most two foreign players from the same country, and Busto is very interested in signing back Lowe and getting Ogbogu. So they would be running out of quota if both Lowe and Ogbogu are coming. I'd love to see Foecke playing at some Italian club though. Not heard about anything on Bastianelli yet.

Now I understand the foreign player limit, but yet I don't. Would you be able to explain it to me? What is the total foreign limit per team? Why is there a limit on foreign players? Also, why in the Italian league is there a US limit of 2 but whereas Stuttgart in Germany boasts practically an entire line up of Americans?

Also, why in the Italian league is there a US limit of 2 but whereas Stuttgart in Germany boasts practically an entire line up of Americans? There are two separate limitations in Italy. For players on the court, 3 have to be Italian (meaning 4 can be foreigners). Then the additional rule is that no team can have more than 2 players from the same country. This is to ensure that Italian players are getting playing time and developing, while preventing other national teams from using Italian league resources to strengthen their teams. Its strategic, and ensures that their best young players (like Danesi, Malinov/Orro) get to compete against the best in the world and not ride the bench. Germany doesn’t have enough quality domestic players to keep their league at a high level if they implemented a rule like that. It’s a balance between getting your league to a competitive level while making sure it develops domestic talent.

This is working perfectly for the Italian National Team. I don’t think we can ever gripe enough about USA not figuring our sh*t out. Other thread I know, alas.

trianglevolleyball basically says it all. Different leagues have different foreign player limitations. For example, the Turkish league only allows three foreign players on the court, but it doesn't limit the number of foreign players from the same country to 2 as Italy league does. So this season we see Lee, Drews, and Hunter are all on the same Turkish team. Stuttgart is even crazier, it has five American players (Wilhite, Rivers, Tapp, McCage, Bugg) and an American assistant coach (Tamari).

I'm getting on the Poulter band wagon after watching her in just a half season for the next to last place team in Italian A1. She transformed them by the quality of her sets. She's a dark horse for USNT playing time and is going to have a break out season next year in Italy. Look for her to be setting a top European team in less then 3 years and depending on who the next USNT coach is I think she will have position on the squad. I wonder if Santarelli speaks enough English to be considered for the USNT. If he can get his team to finish with CL and Italian gold he will be win the Club Coach of the Year award. He can create that Kumbaya vibe so important to the USNT and is playing one of the best editions of the quick offense. Plus he seems to be able to win without a go-to finisher. Sounds perfect to me. I wonder if Imoco can pull it off.
