K State showed youth with critical serve errors in 5th set and predetermined tips instead of swings. Oklahoma very lucky to come out with a win.

Kansas’ inability to get produce from the OH2 spot once again hurts them in this lost. Ashley Smith was decent, serve receive wasn’t good. Langs, Hill, and Ennis was good. Both Christon and Van Driel struggled today as they both hit negative splitting time at the OH2 position. I think it’s time to give Hickman another chance on the RS and move Ennis to the OH2 position. She’s led the team in kills the last two matches and is the only KU hitter who has shown they can successfully play 6 rotations. This will allow KU to see what they can get from there young RS in Carrier and Hickman. This also would give Kansas a bigger block on the RS.

I saw from the stats that Nelson got very few serve returns from the Libero position. Looked like TTU was going after Ennis and Angelo with most of their serves. Looked like KU had Nelson, Ennis, Angelo/Ferris as their returners all game. This would be much easier if they moved Ennis to the LS - as that serve return doesn't work when Ennis is in position 3. Along with trying to get better this year - I would like to see KU develop their players for next season. The problem is that their Seniors have been productive and you cannot take them out. They need to see Christon and Van Driel develop - as they will need both for next year (unless they are thinking a permanent switch for Ennis). And then look at the development of Hickman/Carrier on the RS. I would suggest spreading out PT for the young players. I am intrigued with the prospect of making Ennis an OH for next year (and then transition back to setter for her senior season?). I think not having a 3rd setter on the roster and wanting Ennis on the RS so they can sub out Neilson on the front row late in the game may be part of the reluctance moving Ennis to the LS? I would also consider moving Van Driel back to MB and see where that goes.

She belongs in a better program Or get healthy and lead this team to a Big 12 title in either of the next two seasons. McCall played the front row today - and was very rusty. But watching this team - they have the potential to win the Big 12 in the coming years. Nails, Clark, and Adams look good and have a lot of potential. Add Nichols and Manyang and this team has some real potential among their Sophomores and Freshman (along with McCall). It starts with getting McCall healthy.

Watched the Baylor v. TTU match and I can't help but compare that to the BYU v. USD match I watched. There was a big difference in overall talent, athleticism, speed, and power between those teams. Baylor had their moments, but were inconsistent. TTU is an anomaly having 6 wins in league with the talent they have? BYU and USD were two great teams going at it and fun to watch ( Frohling and Newsome are a new breed of player. ) Is the Big12 a sinking ship? I just don't get the difference in quality of play that I witnessed. I have always enjoyed watching tough Big12 matches that were exciting and a display of athleticism, but kind of discouraged recently.

Not sure TCU has the systems or training to win the Big12. Lots of talent the last 3-4 years but has underperformed. Agree that a healthy McCall makes a huge difference in the potential success, but there seems to be a gap between personnel and philosophy to be able to consistently beat Texas, Baylor, Iowa State, and Oklahoma. For sure could finish top 4, but winning the Big 12 is a bit of a stretch considering. I do hope McCall gets back to form because she is a fun player to watch and good for the league. I think there is a disconnect between talent (which TCU has) and the role of injuries and age plays into this. It seems like Every top recruit from TCU through McCall has had serious injury issues. Right now - they have serious talent that is playing that are either Sophomores or Freshman (particularly their current Freshman class). If a couple of them can develop into AA level play (like the path McCall showed early last year) - they will be very good with all these other pieces. In two years (maybe next year) they could literally be like Baylor this year.
