To be clear....I was merely posing a question. I do not care to dwell on the past. Yes personal management is part of the package when coaching. I guess it is a fine line between going with the needs of the many over the needs of the few. If Karch did indeed neglect her because he simply didn’t want to coach her then that is indeed unfortunate and a huge short coming for him as a coach. However if she really was disrespectful and a detriment to the team and he felt she was not coachable then this is again an unfortunate occurrence as he did not feel apt enough to continue to invite her to train with the team. I don’t really condone either choice....but he made a choice and the team moved on to win it’s first major international Gold medal in 2014. Now clearly things didn’t go to plan in 2016 or really any year since. Would better results have come if Hooker was still on the team....who knows? I have to hope that if I were in his position and with her being such a talented player I would do everything I could to keep her in the gym.....but as you say....Karch is an awkward guy with no resume as a coach before serving as assistant to Hugh for the London Quad and clearly didn’t want her there for whatever reason. It sadly is what it is. So he will do whatever he can in these next two international seasons and then, pending “results” might move on to something else. I’m not president of his fan club but honestly I’m really over this debate over why she isn’t in the gym. She will likely never return to the team. And she will likely retire after a few more professional seasons. Time to face facts. Not trying to offend anyone just sharing my thoughts. Can we get this thread back on topic now? Hooker worshippers will keep saying she should have been on the team and Karch should have been fired even if the US wins gold at Tokyo. Trying to persuade them otherwise is like trying to convince flat-earthers that the Earth is round. At case in point, just look at how shhhhhhhhh is now going into hysterical Hooker worshipping mode.

Some of you are confusing "running a program" with "coaching a team." True, Karch does both, but they are two separate jobs. Now, say someone is creating a toxic environment in the program, and it is affecting Karch AND the team, and does not respond to efforts to fit into the program. Then you cut that person, like a cancerous growth, regardless of how good she is as an individual. This is a team sport. The individual submits herself to the program, also known as being a good teammate. This is what I suspect happened. Well said. But Hooker worshippers don't debate on facts and reason. They debate on emotions.

This thread was up in arms a couple weeks ago because Karch only uses veterans and refuses to give young players a chance. Now that a roster with plenty of kids is posted, you are all pining for the old battle horses of the past. You throw in the veiled hints that he is a sexist tyrant or a closet racist and I get the feeling he just can’t make everybody happy.

I bet everyone wanted her out. It was probably the players decision...us or her. And the reason they don't talk about it is to avoid more drama and mostly important to protect all the players that wanted her gone.
And why Hooker never said what happened? That's really strange ...I mean if she did nothing wrong.
But if Larson, Foluke and everyone else does want her there...why would she want to be there?.
Anyways she won't come back. Move on.

Let's take a worst case example. What if a player challenges Karch's authority in front of the team? This happened to me once. Karch: "I want you to follow the team rules, like everyone else." Player: "I can do whatever I want because I'm the team's best player." What's your next move?

If Hope Solo could make it four (potentially five) quads there’s no reason Hooker should’ve been permanently dismissed after one. . Of course there's a reason. No one cuts the team's best player without a good reason.. The reason hasn't been made public (by Karch OR Destinee) because no one airs their dirty laundry. Remember, Destinee hasn't released any details either. When Microsoft cut their best player, Steve Jobs, in 1985, were all the bloody details released to the public?

Well larson, akinradewo, And dietzen atleast can’t blame hooker for their poor performance in the semifinal 2016 because hooker was not there. Larson struggles in big matches. 2012 London. 2014 world she didn’t play well except the last few points, and could not score in the semifinal against Serbia. So the idea that hooker affects their performance is BS

Don’t get me wrong I love larson. She is one of a kind. But I don’t think there’s been a drastic difference in team performance

How do we even know if those young players will be used in any useful capacity? Also, it’s a little late to FINALLY be investing in some of these younger players. And frankly some of the current players needed to go a long time ago

Hooker stated that she wants to be part of the NT again. Maybe she should formally talk to Karch and iron out the issue. Or ask someone from USAV to mediate. She is playing her best performance since 2010-2012 in Brazil and that can be very valuable to NT. This is her last chance and humbling herself in this situation is the only way. If Karch doesn't accept it then he is the real problem.
Let's face it, Hooker is still the best US right side hitter. She is not Egonu but she sure can carry a team.
