And before ANY Hawaii posters attack me. Im not on either side here. I just think we need to take this seriously. More seriously than some of you are taking it.
This is not me saying Wade is guilty or innocent. Its me saying the university, or whoever, should do a throurough investigation till they get to the bottom of it.
I think this is the right approach. Long Beach appears to have reviewed the situation with Touzinsky and decided that they were okay with him remaining a coach. Then the article and ensuing publicity hit, and they probably got a little weak-kneed and decided that they wouldn't stand up for him. I think that's a little bit lame.
I do think the Hawai'i admin should do an expeditious review and either put their support behind his remaining as coach through the Tournament and/or pending the results of the investigation or ask him to step aside for the good of the team/University. I would be perfectly fine with the first option if the University decided it was warranted.
The primary problem is not SafeSport or the fact that the existence of a complaint is made public. The problem is mainly people's emotional and uninformed reactions to that information.
It bothers me that Scott Touzinsky was pushed to resign (if he was) - after the investigation was complete, he was issued a warning (according the USAV website) and is no longer supsended.

What purpose does this news serve? Outside of creating a stir (which was the author's intention to bring attention to himself as the story finder). It has no effect on an ONGOING investigation and should have no effect on the NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship but now we have an assistant coach for Long Beach stepping down and others calling for the University of Hawaii to take disciplinary action against Hawaii's head coach…. A week before the NCAA's. As noblesol so eloquently pointed out, we know nothing about the investigation, just that there is one. Let the investigation continue but it should have no audience at the NCAA's. This is volleyball, not politics (where hit stories are delivered at the last minute to damage participants.)

You keep saying it's not about volleyball. It's a complaint about a member of the USA Volleyball Federation, the governing body of the sport and of club volleyball. It's not the NCAA, but it is volleyball.

A governing body that has ZERO jurisdiction over NCAA matches. It is irrelevant to the tourney.

So is Barton, but what are we gonna do?

And so what? It's being investigated. Bringing this up is just drama. Again, Innocent until proven guilty. Everything else is an insinuation. Every allegation is unique and in my opinion, private. Otherwise, shady, shady.

Innocent until proven guilty is not equivalent to private. Criminal and civil cases are public. The presumption of innocence does not preclude contemplating that someone might be guilty, which is why we have things like injunctions, bonds, and administrative leaves/suspensions.
But let's be real here. This may be a surprise to most of us, but it is not a surprise to Charlie Wade. He has been aware of his suspension since it was imposed. If he was hoping to stay under the radar and chose to not inform the administration, then he miscalculated. And if he did inform them, then the Hawai'i admin should stand behind him, because shady is as shady does.
"University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa head men’s volleyball coach Charlie Wade "strongly denied" allegations of possible misconduct that happened about 30 years ago.
Wade is under investigation by the U.S. Center for SafeSport. The complaint was from a former female volleyball player.
UH responded with this statement:
There are media reports that University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Head Men’s Volleyball Coach Charlie Wade is under investigation by the U.S. Center for SafeSport regarding an allegation of possible misconduct with a female athlete. The incident is alleged to have happened approximately 30 years ago in California when he was coaching a club volleyball team.
UH takes any allegations of misconduct seriously. The university is actively reviewing the matter and is awaiting the conclusion of the SafeSport investigation.
Wade strongly denies that any type of misconduct took place. In his years at UH, as the women’s volleyball assistant coach and as the men’s coach, he has never been accused of this type of misconduct and has always handled himself with the highest level of professionalism.
Wade cooperated with the SafeSport investigation as soon as he was notified in September 2018. He still has not been been interviewed and has not heard from SafeSport since. His attorney formally requested, multiple times and as recently as April 4, that SafeSport provide an update to the investigation. SafeSport has yet to respond.
The UH men's volleyball team is the No. 1 seed heading into next week's NCAA tournament in California."
Yeah...Wade's attorney asked for an update and Safesports provided nothing. What kind of organization refused to give the accused updates and instead give the OC reporter the go ahead to write a story just before the big game?
