On another note, any surprising players who stood out from the weekend? Mine may be Kean’s freshman outside, he didn’t have great numbers every match but showed a lot of offensive potential Spulnik from New Paltz balled today. Yeah! He didn’t even start against Stevenson and just came in and balled out

NYU has started strong! Can't wait to see them play Arcadia on Thursday.

Vassar found their footing after their second set win vs UCSC. Prior to that they lost 0 - 3 to UCSD and Cal Lutheran. They won 3 - 1 against both UCSC and Fontbonne. It is a pretty good start considering they mostly started 4 freshmen on this trip.

Now that we have a week under our belts, does anyone see any movement in the rankings? I see UCSC falling low and elms dropping as well while NYU will be on the rise

They are 7 - 0 with wins against Cal Lu, UCSC, and St. John Fisher. Vassar was 2 - 1 all against teams who received more votes. I expect them to move into top 15 or just outside of it. Fontbonne had a tough week. They went 0 - 4 losing to Cal Lu, UCSC, Vassar, and NYU.

SVU comes out in 5 over MT. ST. Joes. Not a good look for either team. The W matters more here despite the early season game. Steven's beats Elm's in 4. SVU was playing without one of their All-American outsides this weekend in Clark. Seems a little like they lacked experience on the floor with 4 freshmen out there.

Seems like fontbonne only retained their starting setter and one of their middles from last year's starting lineup. They were only supposed to graduate 3 from their lineup so dont know what happened to the other 2.

This weekend up at Juniata should be fun to see how teams stack up!

This weekend up at Juniata should be fun to see how teams stack up! SVU and Stevenson will be a great match I’m sure. Juniata will be tough to beat with new outside hitter Bowling producing like a stud thus far. I wonder if they will be more well rounded without Peterson being so dominant.

Off the Block Grow the Game Challenge is back but at the D3 level this year. Thiel, Concordia-Wisconsin, Mount Union, and Trine all playing @ Trine.
Sad to see it go at the D1 level, but I like the new, more sustainable direction (correct me if I’m wrong).
I would love to see it become an opening weekend event for first year programs. Have 3+ teams out to a central school, every new program gets a little national attention and a chance to win some very competitive matches, both of which are very hard to come by for first year programs. Can serve as a bright spot for what is usually a rough season.

Really is a cool experience and great chance for competitive matches when they can be hard to come back.

I always thought it would be fun to have an opening tournament that includes all teams from the previous year's final four. With scheduling being done so far in advance these days, it would be hard to do, but it would be great to kick it off the next year that way.
