^ I am really wondering whether Justine makes any of the five pairs this coming year. It goes to show you how much confidence Steino had in Sponcil to basically pick a person of barely walk-on ability and put them at #2 with Sponcil and expect victories. Sorry about derailing a Hawaii thread, but it got it to the top anyway. You’re severely underrating Justine, who is actually quite good. She’ll be in the mix at the 1’s and 2’s next season.

^I have a detailed response, but I will wait for January when there are new NCAA beach threads, and not here on the Hawaii thread.

Hellvig and BVS will be excellent additions to the beach team. I hope they both play!

Hellvig and BVS will be excellent additions to the beach team. I hope they both play! So would Rasmussen. Wagoner as well. I know the goal isn't letting everyone play beach, but some of the the indoor team would elevate beach even higher.

They mentioned several times last night that BVS’s was planning on playing beach. So she probably will for sure. (Originally was going just to play beach when Robyn called her). She played the top flights at Oregon so should be a contender for an upper flight here.
I bet Choi is a lock to play beach as well.

Karissa Cook also still hanging around in AVP Chicago too. One of 6 teams left in a loaded field.
Carly Kan also made her first main draw as the 24th seed and they upset the #9 in the first round

Yeah, Monkhouse leaving the program definitely hurt more than Luyties or Bunn (although I heard Bunn was homesick). Am I understanding your comment correctly? Monkhouse left because she hated Hawaii or the University of Hawaii? And Luyties and Bunn left because of lack of playing time? I see a bunch about Monkhouse going to UCLA, Is she not at FSU? I would imagine it would be good for her as I think it is in her home time zone.

Nice to see the team bonding a lot since school has started. I counted 12 beach only players which is good depth to have for the fall training

Watching Jolie in action this past weekend makes me an instant fan! Her wide array of hits including smart plays of roll shots, defense, and setting makes me think she could fight for one of the top flights. Maybe pair her with Bailey on top 2-3 flights?
Among the top returnees I could see Martin, Scoles, and Ozee battle for it. Then we have Jolie, Bailey, BVS, Norene, Hanna, and possibly Riley to join the team.
It’s looking like an exciting season coming for the beach Bows as well!

My mistake! I was thinking Monkhouse's national playing partner McBain who is playing at FSU.

Glad to see that I’m not the only one who thinks Wagoner would be a great addition to the beach program. She has above-average passing, bump-setting, and hitting skills that could allow her to crack the top five flights, though I think she will need time to adjust to beach (with rules and ball type).
I’m mostly sure that BVS and Hanna will join the beach program, then Jolie and then Riley.
I also would love to see Westerberg give it a shot, a la Maglio. Her coach mentioned in the indoor thread that she has setting experience. Would be interesting to see her potential in beach.
With these players adding talent to the beach, it makes me even more excited to see how the beach program does next season. They struggled last year but still made a great run into the NCAAs with a short hand, and with these potential new additions, the beach program could go further than last season’s.
Just imagine Scoles, Martin, Ozee, Napoleon in the top flights with Hellvig, BVS, Rasmussen, Kekauoha, and Wagoner (?) plus the freshman defenders? I see Hawaii solidifying Flights 4 and 5 easily, leaving mostly the match up and chemistry as the main concerns for the coaches.
My dream line ups change constantly and I still need to see more of the freshman defenders but here are some pairings I’d love to see:
Scoles/Van Sickle Martin/Maidment Hellvig/Napoleon Rasmussen/Ozee (switch block) Kekauoha/Huddleston Loker/Hanneman
I picture Hall allowing BVS to play indoor if he also gets Hellvig for the beach program from Robyn.
Enjoying the indoor program so far but I am also very excited for the beach season!
