The only 3 crossing over is Norene (partnered with Kekauoha), Hanna, and Brooke. Amber, Akana, Riley, and Tiff said they were not going to play Beach Makes sense 2 me. The 3 r the only ones IMO that have a shot at making any of the 5 teams. 2 Swiss Army knives and an international beach player Lol

Angel was able to join the team as a practice player who never saw the court even on her senior year. I think BVS, HH, and RW are sure to join. NI might join if she’s really needed just like last year. JR might not join to focus on indoors. I might see a graduate transfer in Ross. According to Cindy, Iosia is the only player from the indoor team who is sure to join, and it is likely that we will see BVS and Hellvig on the beach as well. I don't think she mentioned anything about Wagoner, but it would be nice to see her on the beach as well (and it seems possible with what Koa is saying). For Riley and Tiff, a VB clinic might help them with their hitting mechanics, hitting approach, court vision, how to dialog with setter etc. I’d like to see Riley get another shot at OH but her hitting skills needs work. At least she has her serve receive game as a fallback.

Now that indoor season is over, who are we gonna see on the sand? I know it's been mentioned before but here are my guesses: Brooke Van Sickle (one of the reasons she chose UH sooo yeaaah) Hanna Hellvig (literally a stud on beach so yeahhh) Riley Wagoner (will improve her overall game so can't see why not) Norene Iosia (there's no way you can keep a player with that VBALL IQ off the sand and we saw flashes during indoor with her amazing cuts) Tiffany Westerberg (I guess this is more of a wish but I would REALLY like this cause it would help with her lateral movement on the slide a la Emily Maglio) I don't think we will see Westerberg on the beach. Iosia, yes. Wagoner should play. BVS and Hellvig, definitely.

Thoughts and predictions for the upcoming UH beach season:
1. What is your dream lineup for the UH 2020 season with the addition of possible indoor players? 2. What, if any, lineups from the Fall will stick? 3. Which lineups from the Fall will change? 4. Will Ozee go back to being a full-time defender? 5. Will a UH player win Freshman of the Year for the 5th straight year in the Big West (Maglio, Martin, Monkhouse, Napolean)? If so, who will it be Hellvig, Huddleston, Maidment, Hanneman? 6. Will one of the incoming freshman redshirt? If yes, who? 7. Who will be at the #1 flight? 8. Who will win the Big West Conference title? 9. What returning players from last season will most likely be left out of the 2020 lineup? 10. Where will UH finish in the National Tournament (assuming they make it)?

I have high hopes for Helvig and think she will contend for FOY 8. It will be a two horse race and I give the edge to Hawaii over SLO though if TVW is back to her old self and her sister is paired right they could surprise. Their new facility will add some juice to the program. It looks awesome. Had thought The Beach would contend but with them losing HH all bets are off. She was the engine on that team and the domino effect will be huge. 10. Too early for me to say but was wondering if anyone knew if the field was expanding this year?

I think Ozee/Hannemann, Scoles/Huddleston, and Martin/Napoleon were very successful against USC but Coach Hall always loves to switch things up so we'll see. 4. I think Ozee should go back to being a blocker. I know she wants to be a defender but I think her skill sets suits a blocker much better. 5. I think that it's very possible! We have stellar freshmen talent so I can't wait to see how they shake up the pairings! 7. I think Morgan Martin deserves to be at #1. Hopefully she and Napoleon can continue to build off of their success in 2019. 9. Russo and Hurkett will most likely sit. And if the indoor players really make a splash, I could see a scenario where Loker is possibly sitting (highly improbable though) Dream Lineup: 1) Martin/Napoleon 2) Scoles/Huddleston 3) Ozee/Hannemann 4) Loker/Maidment 5) Iosia/Kekauoha 6) Hellvig/Hardisty Bench: BVS, Russo, Hurkett Wow for once, the number of blockers is greater than the number of defenders. INTERESTING!

Based on the schedules of others' schools, here is the (probably incomplete) Sandbows list. They play UCLA, USC, FSU, and LSU plus Stetson and Cal Poly, NCAA tournament teams last year. They do not play Pepp. Except for the first, the tournaments in HI do not have the best teams. 4 Cali trips and one to Florida. Possibly only 3 home tournaments with senior night as early as 4/5.
2/22-23: Duke Kahanamoku Classic LSU, Stanford, UCLA
2/29-3/1: Stanford Tournament Stanford, Saint Mary’s, and 1 or 2 other teams
3/7-8: ?
3/14-15: Stetson Beach Blast (Florida) Stetson, USC, UAB, Florida State
3/21-22: Hawai‘i Tournament GCU, Nebraska, Washington
3/23: Nebraska (probably)
3/28-29: Big West Challenge at Huntington Beach UC Davis, CSUN, Cal Poly, LBSU, Sac State, Bakersfield
4/4-5: Tournament in HI LMU, Portland, UC Davis
4/11-12: East West in LA TCU, Florida State, LSU, FIU
4/17-19: Big West Tournament at Davis (UC Davis, CSUN, Cal Poly, LBSU, Sac State, Bakersfield)
4/25-26: ?
5/1-3: NCAA at Gulf Shores, AL

Laurel Weaver a Trojan! usctrojans.com/sports/womens-beach-volleyball/roster/coaches/laurel-weaver/4972 At first I was thinking, what?!, she still has eligibility left and why isn’t she with Hawai’i? Then I went to the Trojan website and saw she’s a coach. Congrats to her! Happy for her!

What, if any, lineups from the Fall will stick? 3. Which lineups from the Fall will change? 4. Will Ozee go back to being a full-time defender? 5. What returning players from last season will most likely be left out of the 2020 lineup? 10. Where will UH finish in the National Tournament (assuming they make it)? 2. I think Scoles and Huddleston will stick. I think they match up really well. 3. I think Ozee and Hanneman might not stick (although they did well in the Fall together). 4. I think Ozee will go back to either being a full-time defender or split block. The team has lots of blockers this season, and Ozee has aspirations of going pro as a defender. I think she just played blocker for the Fall tournament. 5. I think UH will get Freshman of the Year again. I want to say most likely it will be Huddleston, but you never know it could be Hellvig. I think it will depend on who the pairs are, and what position they are playing at. 6. I think Hardisty could end up red-shirting. You never know, depending on what indoor cross-over and where they are, perhaps even Hanneman (but less likely IMO). 7. I think Martin will start at the #1 flight, but not because she "deserves" it over anyone else. I think whoever is there is going to have to earn it by performance. The last few years, we have seen a pair start out at #2 and end up at #1. Scoles and Huddleston could surprise, and Ozee will fight for a #1 position again as well. 8. I agree it will be a two-horse race with CP. I think UH is not going to be so easily intimidated by CP this year. UH finish last year at the NCAA's will give them the confidence to know that they can beat CP. I think that UH will have more depth, but with TVW likely returning, they will have their hands full at the first two flights in particular. UH 3, 4, 5's may be the difference. 9. Hurkett and Russo. 10. While I think they are capable of going all the way this season, I am going to "conservatively" say they will finish as runner-ups. They have a good mix of seniors and good freshman this year. 1. Still too early really, but based on the Fall. I think Scoles and Huddleston is going to stick and be a team that will continue to improve and contend for the #1 flight. Scoles is in much better condition than last year and is steadily improving. I also think Hellvig can be right in the mix at the #1 flight depending on who she is paired with. A Hellvig/Ozee could be similar to a Maglio/Ozee. Here's my early dream team: #1 Martin and Napolean #2 Scoles and Huddleston #3 Hellvig and Ozee #4 Loker and Maidment #5 Iosia and Hanneman #6 Kekauoha and BVS Reserves: Russo and Hurkett and Hardisty red-shirting (unless needed).

I predict BVS will be playing higher than 6's. Agreed. People are sleeping on BVS. And, your line-ups would be? I don't think, myself or some of the others are underestimating her so much as valuing some of the other players. I have had BVS in early scenarios even with Scoles, and with Iosia. But, that is why this was an "early prediction" based on Fall camp. Much of beach volleyball is about the partnerships (and the team personnel), and we have seen in the past the Fall players develop chemistry together, and it is tough to come in and January. Last year, the coaches had trouble finding a pair for Maglio when she arrived in January. Originally, the coaches (and everyone else), assumed she would be partnered with Homayun. The early pairing with Scoles and Homayun worked well (and Scoles really needed an experienced player). Martin and Ozee were playing well together as well. The team eventually needed a shake-up, in order to get Maglio at one of the higher flights where she belonged. I think BVS will have trouble breaking into the top two flights. I don't think she will beat out Napolean for one of the top defenders, and Huddleston is really good. Hall also seems to like it when he can put a Freshman in one of the top flights (and possibly capture another Freshman of the Year honors for UH). Plus, they have really good chemistry and complement each other well. Who players are partnered with, is probably going to determine where they play. It is possible, that BVS could play with Ozee, if Ozee were to stay a blocker, but I am not sure that she will. She would have to beat out Hanneman, which is possible. That said, in my line-up, I think Hellvig and Ozee would be a really good pairing (much like Maglio and Ozee). I've watched Hellvig play beach volleyball, and I think she can be an impact player. Plus, having a big blocker can be really valuable against some teams. Maidment and Loker could be a really good pair (similar to Martin/Ozee, Martin/Monkhouse). Maybe, BVS sneaks in with Loker, and the freshman duo of Maidment and Hanneman play together. But, Hall has favored an experienced player with a freshman at the lower flights. Until we see how the indoor players make out coming in late, I see BVS somewhere between 4-6. I would be happy if she makes Flight #3. What I do know though, is the coaches are well aware of the indoor players, and will try out every possible combination to figure out the pairs (no easy task). BVS will likely get the opportunity to play with everyone.
