Why no home matches on campus at the Ching complex? Why only Queens Beach? Mainly to prepare the team for the Gulf Shores where it is a real beach, with deep sand. The Ching sand is much more compact than at Queen's, and the game is very different (movement, blocking, etc.). The team has felt that they have not been as prepared as they would like when they competed on the beaches. They were at a disadvantage even playing at UCLA because the sand is so much deeper there. Jeff Hall mentioned this last year as well, but they do play those few matches (Nebraska, Boise State etc.) at the Ching. I think this was mainly for OC to broadcast. I suspect they will do this again this year. Why does the post season always happens at the Gulf Shores? Should they start bidding for the locations like women/men’s? Queens would be a great post season location too.

Gulf Shores is, what, two years into a five year contract, I think? And Queens is way too small for the NCAA’s - need seven courts plus seating, VIP section, camera platforms, Jumbotron and so on. I’d love to see the NCAA’s somewhere in the West, but somebody out here needs to step up and put in a bid (Huntington? Pismo? I dunno).

I thought Hawaii said that Honolulu was going to put in a bid for next time.

Last year they had a terrible RPI because they played Nebraska 3 times. This year we're only playing Nebraska once--so problem solved. (Plus, Nebraska has a way easier schedule than they did last year so they won't be 0-12 or whatever they were last year)
It's always good to play teams outside of your region, as well as you want to grow the game in the Midwest.

I thought Hawaii said that Honolulu was going to put in a bid for next time. Not sure that we have beaches wide enough for the Championships. The shoreline is pretty close on almost every beach here. As geddy mentioned, the Championships need a lot of space. But for smaller tournaments, our beaches are the best because they are real beaches in a tropical paradise.

Is the schedule finalized? Will UH add a couple of games at the Ching to be broadcasted? I feel they might add another Nebraska match. When is senior's night (against St. Mary's on Tuesday April 7th)? Will Hall really forego any media coverage like that? It's good they aren't playing Nebraska three times, but I don't think it is UH's responsibility to grow the game in the Midwest at the sake of RPI.

Maybe Hellvig doesn’t like the sun as much. Those Scandinavians burn easily.

Well, at least it’s good news that Wagoner is not transferring. That is my #1 fear of the off-season and what scares me the most when I click on the Hawaii 2020, Transfer Portal Tea, and D1 Transfers threads. LOL! More afraid of that than snakes.

This was based on Rasmussen’s insta story where she put “Sand Bows” along with the rest of these players. I think that Iosia and Hellvig will play beach as well, but they were simply just not there for Rasmussen’s insta story.

This may not mean anything but in the Fall 2019, I read somewhere (probably Cindy Luis's blog) that Brooke Van Sickle and Riley Wagoner attended a beach volleyball tournament at Queens Beach. I was thinking at the time that not only were they there to support their friends (I'm assuming the indoor and beach vb players were friends) but Wagoner was there to "learn" the beach game from Van Sickle -- tactics, big vs. defender, poke shots, etc. I pictured in my mind the two sitting together as Van Sickle taught the intricacies of the game to Wagoner. All in my head. Maybe they didn't even go together. LOL!

Maybe Hellvig is burnt out from indoor. I guess its possible that she might forgo playing beach this season and maybe redshirt the beach season since there are so many seniors on the squad. She could start beach next season as a RS freshman and have four years to play. Also with the large graduating class, she may get a crack to play at a higher flight.
