Well, if the Nourse twins stay together and Joy is paired with Harper, then Joy is likely back to 4s at best. These would have to be the top 3 pairs: Hallgren/Harward Doig/Slater Nourse/Nourse Obviously subject to further change, but here is how the season is starting: 1) Hallgren/Harward 2) Doig/Slater 3) Nourse/Nourse 4) Dennis/Hallgren 5) Kaiser/Ebertin 6) Dorn/Dreeuws stats.statbroadcast.com/statmonitr/?id=309078Nice, it seems like it’s been a long time since the lower Trojans pairs would dominate matches like today. What the F does J. Dennis have on these coaches. She should be riding the pine.

USC takes a really bad loss to a South Carolina team whose only other win was a 3-2 squeaker over the mighty Houston Baptist Huskies (why would a school in sultry Houston have a snowsled dog for a mascot? But I digress).
It’s very, very early in the season, plenty of time to clean things up. Gotta forget about this one and get ready for FSU, who beat South Carolina twice already by a cumulative score of 10-0.

I’m kinda shocked the Nourse twins lost in the 3s position.

Mmm, 3s and 5s were close in the 3rd sets (15-17 and 16-18). Maybe the Trojans need to spend more practice time at the beach. Remember how they got crushed by Stetson last year at NCAAs....
Joy and Harper won their matches today in straight sets and they weren’t close. 21-15, 21-16 against South Carolina. No complaints there.

I do agree USC struggles in the wind. They probably need to vary their training conditions.

I do agree USC struggles in the wind. They probably need to vary their training conditions. I don’t know what their current practice schedule is, but Collier had them practicing in the deep sand/wind at Manhattan at least once a week.

Yes, a good loss is a loss to a higher ranked team. At least not quite as painful. I’m not surprised at these losses however. Lots of underclassmen and new comers in key roles. Lost a lot of leadership with the juniors on this team not of the same leadership mindset as Abril or Tina or even Cannon or Poletto.
Lots of growth potential, but I have moderate expectations for SC this year. Also, enjoying the talent spread across the nation we are witnessing through these early results.

I think moving Dorn/Dreeuws into the 5 spot was a good move.

I think moving Dorn/Dreeuws into the 5 spot was a good move. Kaiser-Ebertin lost their last set to GCU 21-11. I wonder if one of them got injured. So a win against the #1 ranked team is a really good win? This time they showed their grit by winning 2 out of 3 3rd sets.

Credit your USC for coming east to play my USC for a 3rd straight year. The conditions were rough: it was COLD. I thought FSU was going to win easily on Sunday based on what I saw in the previous duals. So that was a really gutsy win by the Trojans. No doubt the trip will pay dividends come NCAA tournament time.
