www.teamusa.org/USA-Volleyball/Features/2017/January/03/Jamie-Davis-Hired-as-USAVs-Next-CEOSo here I am, a volleyball fan, excited that the Americans qualified. Somewhat of a expectation, but still. I’m thinking what a great time to get some national attention on the sport. Every time one of my sports teams accomplished something, I’m definitely watching sportscenter that night. So I watched sportscenter, and nothing. No mention of USA volleyball, which would have been a great opportunity for creating excitement around the sport to #growthegame. When Jamie Davis took over of CEO of USAV, I was excited they got someone with TV experience and a business acumen. But what has he done since taking over? As far as I can tell, there hasn’t been significant progress or a major change from what USAV was doing before he got there. I was expecting major changes to the way that matches are televised, and changes to how boys volleyball is addressed around the country. For years, it baffles me how the JNC’s weren’t televised, but AAU’s has at least some kind of broadcast. There is now cornhole on ESPN... there is cheerleading what seems like every Saturday morning. Softball coverage has grown substantially in the last five years. If you watch a game, the commentators often talk about how great it is that so many more games are on tv, and how it’s going to grow the sport. They’re right. The softball players are beating us. Why can’t we get some matches at random times on the weekends when young kids are up and watching tv? (Yes, I know vball gets virtually no coverage once college basketball season starts, which makes complete sense). I’ve touched a lot of topics, but what has our CEO done to improve the sport in this country? The numbers grow every year by themselves because I think we’re already the second fastest growing sport behind lacrosse. The lacrosse players are beating us. But that growth is not a reflection of anything major that USAV has tried to do. Do they just have this “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it” mentality? Someone please prove me wrong and tell me an ingenious initiative of the USAV in the past few years that will actually impact anything. Because if they were capable of making actual change, there would have been at least 2 minutes on sportscenter tonight.

He was doing some on-line retail stuff, not sports management, and he knew absolutely nothing about volleyball. He still probably knows absolutely nothing about volleyball. I understand your fixation on ESPN Sportscenter as a barometer of national attention, but it would have been much better to put more effort into having more than 2300 people in attendance in Bossier City, Louisiana.

Disappointed to see empty seats for the clinching match. Why wasn’t this match in Lincoln/Omaha instead?

He's done a lot. Gutted the CAP program, I hear they are contemplating shopping it out to AOC or GM2. Fired a bunch of staffers and not hired replacements. Looked at the organization and tried to cut costs to the bone. And de-emphasized the High Performance program, did away with High Performance coaches training.
Oh, he did change the NT uniform suppiler from Mizuno to Adidas, not a horrible decision but the execution of the transition was bungled completely.

All accurate except the Adidas deal was in place and I think signed too before he took over. So you can't give him credit for that. Basically all he has done was fire people who get paid a lot and replaced them by giving more responsibilities to other people or by hiring entry level positions. He's cut funding to everything related to USAV like you mentioned, junior nationals, HP, you name it. He's all about saving money and that's about it. But the guy does have one of those overly firm handshakes that scream "I'm important so I like to shake hands with as much grip as I can get". That type of handshake should tell you everything you need to know. Napoleon complex to the max.

You’re not going to get parents who think their kids should play volleyball or young kids that want to play volleyball by getting 10,000 more existing volleyball fans into three matches. Not really that helpful to the cause, unless it created an atmosphere that was media-worthy.

It was an article/interview where he mentioned looking into the development of a US pro league, but it was a while back andvthere haven't been any announcements since.

Disagree with the 1st sentence; The attendance in LA is a reflection of just that, the host location, not the popularity of the sport as a whole...or a reflection on how the new CEO is growing the game.

cut budgets and staff... that is all... if the organization is lucky there will be people in CO Springs with working knowledge of running the governing body when he finally leaves... it is almost in shambles
