I should add that this could vary by institution... Some may have a policy that doesn't allow for ineligible SAs to travel, etc... Why spend the $$ on flying/feeding a SA who can't compete... When they are likely better served on campus and studying...

When they are likely better served on campus and studying... Thank you. She will lose a year of eligibility right? Her compliance officer would be the best place to go for that answer - it is far to vague to answer 100% on an anonymous message board. That said - in most cases... the only thing that triggers a season of competition is competition. 14.2.4.2.1.2 Organized Competition. Athletics competition shall be considered organized if any one of the following conditions exists: (Adopted: 1/16/10 e ective 8/1/10 for individuals who are issued a nal amateurism certi cation by the NCAA Eligibility Center on or after 4/1/10) (a) Competition is scheduled in advance; (b) Official score is kept; (c) Individual or team standings or statistics are maintained; (d) Offcial timer or game offcials are used; (e) Admission is charged; (f) Teams are regularly formed or team rosters are predetermined; (g) Team uniforms are used; (h) An individual or team is privately or commercially sponsored; or (i) The competition is either directly or indirectly sponsored, promoted or administered by an in- dividual, an organization or any other agency. Tell her to go talk to her compliance officer... till that happens everything is a guess... once they give her an answer then she can move forward with her options.

10 full time semesters to play 4 seasons in D2. Slightly different than D1 5 years is 10 full-time semesters. How are they different? You can take a semester or year off in D2 and your clock stops. Or go part-time. None of that works in D1, the clock for 5 years keeps ticking

None of that works in D1, the clock for 5 years keeps ticking So the difference is not the length of time, but that you can stop the clock in D2 for any reason (I assume). You can actually stop the clock in D1, but it's for a limited list of reasons. Mission trip and military service are the primary reasons specifically listed. Player can also submit an appeal for other reasons.

Or graduated early or with a season of eligibility remaining, now want to get Masters and play. The part-time semesters sometimes matter if someone needed them to finish juco or to get back to being academically eligible.

I knew this was the rule in the NAIA, but I thought all NCAA divisions had the five year rule. Thanks for the information.
Several years ago there was a guy in his mid to late 50s who had one year of eligibility left and came back to play football for a NAIA school in west Texas.

Thank you! This is DD roomie/teammate who should have been ineligible last spring due to grades from fall. Spring was no better...she had to petition to stay in school. So now she’s ineligible for this fall. Actually concerned that coach will keep bending this fall (allowing her at practice, team events, etc) and SA won’t make it academically again. Great kid but she needs VB our now& academics in. Ok... So highly likely that your DD doesn't have all the info that the coaching and compliance staff has... Teammate sounds to be on academic probation with the school of some sort... Let the staff do their thing... And encourage your DD to be a good teammate... Her friends academic standing isn't really anything she can control...
