I keep seeing this and I wonder if people remember that last year's Nebraska team hit .265 for the season. With Mikaela Foecke. Remove her, and the rest of the team hit .244 for the season. It really isn't that hard to imagine, at least for me, that even moderate improvement across the board and Nebraska is still a better team overall. Foecke and Maloney are hard to replace. I absolutely agree, but replacing them in the aggregate isn't an impossible task. Well, maybe it's just cause you're a homer. 🤣 Jk, jk, but you're missing only half the equation. Yes, you lose arguably the most clutch offensive player in the history of your storied program, but you also lose the two best passers on that team (and best server in Foecke). Replacing that passing is not going to be easy. Could Nebraska shock Stanford at home in front a raucous crowd? Sure. But should they be favored to beat a team with significantly more talent, experience and depth than they have currently? Absolutely not. I actually agree with the idea that the defense is likely to suffer from missing the Seniors, and honestly I think serving will be the biggest difference early season. Nebraska was one if not the(statistically they were the) best serving teams in the country and Maloney/Foecke were the best servers on the team. Secondly, Nebraska vs. Stanford is immaterial to my argument. I wouldn't pick Nebraska even at home. Right now, I wouldn't pick them at tournament time either. The issue I take is the idea that Nebraska will be significantly worse. As if it's a forgone conclusion. Which it isn't. There are plenty of reasons to think Nebraska actually could be better.

Illinois beat Wisconsin at the end of last year, so obviously Illinois has to be higher at the start of this year... But also, Wisconsin’s outsides are not good. Illinois has two good outsides. And they also have a 6 4 middle freshman from Nebraska. : D I do believe Illinois got a gem in Kyla Swanson.

The thing about Foecke is that there is every reason to believe the other Husker hitters benefited from her attacking; i.e., the opponent focus was not on Sweet or the M2 or even Sun. I'd wager even Stivrins benefited. To assume that the others will pick it up a notch and replace her offense seems optimistic.
Take Maloney out of there, too, and I expect Nebraska is going to struggle. At least to start.

They sit behind their late 2000s desktop computer in their den of their farmhouse, log into VT and go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about how great Nebraska is. I’d prefer not to try to beat the dead horse.

The six years before Foecke were arguably a failure by NU standards, they had a ton of talent that consistently couldn't come up with the goods when it mattered most and didnt make a final four despite being at home for several of those post season tournaments.

Well, I went to Illinois website and clicked on recent newspaper article -- Jen Tamas says Hinton seems to be wanting it more. We shall see. I think Tamas and company are building momentum and a lot of it.

At the beginning of the season? Not really. Hell, you only have to go back to last year. But, sure, Nebraska's struggles are not like most program's struggles. Context, shhhhhhh, once again. We're talking about Stanford v. Nebraska in September.

For the last two seasons, I had expected this exact scenario, that we are going to struggle now without xplayer. If it happens this year, then Foecke and Maloney were a major factor. Though I like following trends and Cook's trend couldn't be more consistent. If I put money on it, I'd say we don't struggle. Cook is just that good.

I think Nebraska vs. Stanford in September is exciting. Will be a coaching match, IMO. I'll take Nebraska 3-2
