Lincoln is on the back of the penny, inside the memorial. Def Comedy Jam was also correct, as well as South America. 1. In addition to being New Year’s Eve, December 31st is, unsurprisingly, National Champagne Day. What sparkling wine used to be marketed as “Spanish champagne”? 2. What product was being advertised in the 1972 commercial that popularized the phrase, “I can’t believe I ate the whole thing”? 3. What game, first popularized at an arcade on the Atlantic City boardwalk, was originally 32 feet long and played with metal balls when it was invented in 1907? 4. What 1989 movie’s title also appears in its dialogue, followed by the line, “Unlike people, dogs are naturally good and loyal and kind”? 5. Bhutan, Malta, and Wales are the only countries in the world to feature what creature on their flags? 3. Monopoly

Cava and skee-ball were correct. As were All Dogs Go to Heaven, Alka Seltzer and a dragon.
Today's theme is: Start Your Calendars. In honor of the turn of the calendar year, here are questions about calendars!
1. What calendar was replaced by the Gregorian calendar in 1582?
2. During what month in 2021—on the Gregorian calendar—will the Chinese calendar turn from the “Year of the Rat” to the “Year of the Ox”?
3. What DC Comics superhero periodically squares off against a villainous super-genius with the laughable name “Calendar Man,” who only commits crimes on certain holidays?
4. The Nepal Sambat; the Maramataka of the Māori people; and the Hijri, except in Iran and Afghanistan, are all examples of what type of calendar?
5. What is the eight-letter name for the calendar system used in the Star Trek universe?

I echo min59's sentiment about having great trivia from ruffda once I discovered this thread. Putting a ps on the previous day, should have at least guessed dragon because that was what came to mind. Oh well. 1. Julian calendar 2. February 3. Flash or captain America. Wild guesses.

IIRC, "stardate" was originally invented because they thought a "captain's log" would need dated entries, but they didn't want to establish a chronological order for the episodes. So they could just put in random numbers and say that was just how stardates worked.
