#1 Brookfield East defeated #4 Wauwatosa West 19-25, 23-25, 25-15, 25-18, 15-8. Sean Honan was on fire for west but East made runs when he was back row. Both teams looked sloppy at time and spectacular at times. Set 4 was actually close. West ran out to a 5-0 lead and was up 15-11 and then Honan rotated to back row. East got enough contribution from players at all positions to pull off the reverse sweep. Both teams had a nice crowd.

#2 Franklin defeated #3 Westosha last night in 5. Game 5 was a sideout battle with it ending in 15-13. Westosha has a very talented sophomore/junior class that will be a force in the next two years. Congrats to Westosha on a great season and it was a fun battle last night in a loud gym.
On Monday, our sectional final did change from Elkhorn to Westosha due to scheduling conflicts with Elkhorn...Not sure how this was not figured out 5 months ago when the sectionals were released?
Best of luck to the final 16 teams competing on Saturday.

Are the girls sectional semifinals tomorrow as well? Or are theirs on Thursday? Girls are on Thursday. Got it, thanks. I'm assuming the boys are playing earlier mostly due to ref availability, and maybe in part due to gym availability.

I might be mistaken, but I don't think that all of the #1 seeds typically make it to state. That being said, how many "upsets" will we see this weekend?
#1 Kimberly vs #2 Appleton North #1 Germantown vs #3 Arrowhead #1 Middleton vs #3 Kettle Moraine #1 Catholic Memorial vs #2 Waukesha West #1 Kenosha Indian Trail vs #2 Racine Horlick #1 Muskego vs #2 Franklin #1 Marquette vs #2 Shorewood #1 Brookfield East vs #3 Tosa East
I'm thinking Waukesha West and Tosa East, with a sleeper in Kettle Moraine

I added in the final state coaches poll rankings. Three of Saturday's match-ups will pair top 10 teams against one another. Only one match-up features no teams in the top 10. (1) Kimberly vs (7) Appleton North (2) Germantown vs (UR) Arrowhead (4) Middleton vs (UR) Kettle Moraine (5) CMH vs (6) Waukesha West (UR) Indian Trail vs (10) Horlick (UR) Muskego vs (UR) Franklin (3) Marquette vs (UR) Shorewood (8) Brookfield East vs (9) Tosa East So, all of the Final Top 10 Poll teams still remain.

Wondering if anyone (coaches or WIAA) have said anything about having the correct volleyballs available for Saturday? Sectional finals being held at schools that primarily don't have boys volleyball adds yet another level of complexity.

Coaches - please post links to the all conference teams/POY announcements. Inspired by MKLW going 15 for 16 in the games last night, even nailing "upsets" and how many sets it would take, here goes my guess at POY for the conferences. In the conferences where the regular season title ended up in a tie, I gave the edge to the team that won the conference tourney if there was one. So....
Big Eight - Parker Van Buren, Middleton Classic Eight - Matthew Spellman - Waukesha West Fox Valley - Landon Krause - Kimberly Greater Metro - gotta be a GTown kid and I have to go with the setter Hans Stelpflug, but whoever the coach advocates for will get it, but it is kinda cool to have a kid named Hans from Germantown win it. Markes, Tosa East, may be the best player in the league, but you can't give POY to a player on a team that finishes 4th, unless the player is the best ambassador of the game in the past decade, when you have really talented players on the teams 1-3. North Shore - Nolan Wollmer - Whitefish Bay Southeast - two horse race between Nathen Klimisch, KIT and Matt Barrientez, Racine Horlick, and I am going with the Tourney winner Barrientez. Southern Lakes - David Paul, Burlington Woodland - Ethyn Burczyk, Pius

Regarding # 1 seeds advancing, MUHS, Middleton (I don't think KM can make up for a starting middle being out due to injury against Parker Van and the Middletons) and Germantown are locks, Kimberly is very probable, but when you have to play your brother for the 17th time this season, nothing is guaranteed, and the other four are IMO coin flip games on a neutral floor where teams are playing familiar foes. I doubt very much that all four of those teams, Brook East, Muskego, KIT and CMH make it.

That is also typically when we see it in the news articles. That is the same with all-state as it has historically always been announced after the championship match (although many people know know by then).

Wondering if anyone (coaches or WIAA) have said anything about having the correct volleyballs available for Saturday? Sectional finals being held at schools that primarily don't have boys volleyball adds yet another level of complexity. Schools that host Sectional finals are sent 1 game ball from the WIAA. So that should not be an issue. Unless the host AD decides not to come in on Saturday at 4pm and forgets to get it out of their office.
However typically the host school provides warm up balls for the participants. So teams may be warming up with super touches since 6 out of the 8 schools have no use for the pro touch.

I especially like your pick for Spellman in the classic 8, because it isn’t as obvious as people think. CMH has a lot of really talented players as well, and I argue they are the better team by a small margin but I knew Spellman when he was on the jv as a freshman and didn’t have the vertical and strength he has now. He’s worked extremely hard to get to where he is and it’s showed in him being the standout player on a pretty successful team.

That said, I will take Kimberly in 5. I don’t think Arrowhead should pose any challenge to Germantown. They have a couple of decent outsides but nothing on par with Germantown’s depth. GTown in 3. KM is a team who usually plays best at the very end (I.E. pushing Middleton to 5 last year) but with a starter out I don’t like their chances. I think they’ll be competitive, but not a legitimate threat. Middleton in 4. Oh boy... this one should be a blood bath. West won in overtime in a 5th set at the conference tourney the last time these two played. I think CMH is the better team overall, but barely. This is a coin flip but I’ll take CMH in 4. Indian Trail vs Horlick.. truthfully I know little about either team, but I know KIT has good depth vs Horlick having a singular notable combo. This isn’t the most educated of guesses but I’ll take KIT in 4. Muskego v Franklin.. none of the top 4 teams in this sectional have been super competitive with the top 10 this year, but the matches have been good so far. I’m gonna take Franklin in 3 though. Marquette in 3. That is all. BEast v Tosa East.. this one is tough, and I again feel like this isn’t an easy call. I’ll take Tosa East in 4. Here’s to Saturday hopefully providing an afternoon of entertaining volleyball!
